How do you feel about the release of the 911 phone calls for help?
Edited on Fri Mar-31-06 08:40 AM by mtnsnake
....the ones they're now playing on the news that came from callers from the World Trade Center who never made it out alive?

The recordings are really disturbing, they're very sad, and they arouse the emotions. They're so sad that I tried not to listen, but felt compelled to hear one. Next time they play one I'll change the channel. It's too hard to hear those poor people on the phone who never made it out.

I really don't need to hear these tragic phone calls 4 1/2 years after they happened to keep me from ever forgetting what happened that day. If they weren't allowed to be played back then, I wonder why they're all of a sudden being released publicly at this time. I don't know...maybe they're part of some kind of healing process for the victims' families. If that's the case, then so be it.

Whatever the intended purpose might be, though, it seems to me like these recordings are also going to fuel pro-war sentiment all over again and will serve to re-kindle the passion for payback. The timing and the nature of this has me a little more than curious.

For every recording they play of a caller from the World Trade Center, they should show that clip of Bush sitting in the classroom with his thumb up his ass when he got news of the attacks.

1. I don't really want to hear them
I know they were bound to wind up on the news, but they still get to me too much.

2. Disgusting voyeurism, that's how.
Maybe the media ought to spend more time on WHY OUR LEADERSHIP WENT AWOL.

3. You beat me to the punch. Also on why our "leadership"
is releasing that stuff NOW. Could it be to remind the sheep why they voted for their little tin Jesus in the White House?

Nothing ever happens without an ulterior motive with this bunch.

4. I do not want to hear them.
It's like feeding that horrible feeling of that day. And yes, it attempts to play to the pro-war bunch.

That said, if the families want it released, that is ok, but I will not listen to more than I have too. I saw only one tape being played this morning, and the parents of the young man believed that they needed to listen in his honor, and therefore, did not mind others hearing it. some families have stated that they themselves will not even listen to the tapes.

5. While I have a morbid curiosity for them ...
I would rather read them as opposed to hearing them.

6. They are "evidence" in the Moussaoui trial.
People need to be reminded of the horror of 9/11 so Moussaoui can get the death penalty.

Never mind that his involvement in 9/11 sounds like delusions of grandeur.

Never mind that higher-ups in our government got plenty of warning before 9/11 & did nothing.

And, yes, let's not forget the image of Bush with his thumb up his ass. Do we know when each call was made? It could be played over the appropriate part of "My Pet Goat." No, I really don't want to exploit their pain. Leave it to the other side.

7. why released now?
possibly just another little hint of some nebulous 9/11-Saddam connection that never actually existed except in Bush's and the Fox network's little minds

13. Who stands to benefit from these being released?
In my opinion it's only going to whip up anger from the reactionary right wing morons that can't tell the difference between Iraq and Afghanistan. Maybe that's the whole point in releasing them now. Pretty sick and pretty low.

8. ...to hear their voices yesterday and to hear the lies today is what
is sickening. There are so many unanswered questions about 911 and the administration in charge one has to wonder.

9. I struggle with the privacy issue, but I do feel they have to be public,
Edited on Fri Mar-31-06 08:56 AM by terip64
In a free society there is no other way. It gets muddy really quickly for me but ultimately they need to be public.

As far as fueling pro war sentiment, I hadn't thought of that. It made me think about the horrible fact that we are less safe today then we were in 2001. We are certainly more hated.

I think Americans are finally facing some of the horrors of this adminstration that we have been facing for a long time. It's depressing as hell. I hope they choose to do something about it and not just continue to bury their heads.

10. Its worse because they waited - 911 calls are public domain
If they had released them like normal they would not be reopening wounds now.

11. It is only going to open wounds
that have been trying to heal.
If the families wanted to hear them, then they should have been allowed to hear them, privately.
However, chances are, it might piss some people off enough to start questioning the "official" story.
But these poor families.
I hope this administration burns in Hell for what they have done.

12. I have the movie "Flight 93"
On my DVR, I still can't bring myself to watch it. A good family friend was one of the last ones out of the Fidelity building (its attached the the WTC and collapsed also) so its still really hard to think about.

14. Sensationalism, and a darker purpose.
Have to whip the Sheeple up into a froth again over "Fight 'em THERE so's we don't have to fight 'em HERE!"

I don't see how much "healing" I could get from hearing my loved one's last words being played all over cable Teeee-Veee for the titilation of Rita Cosby.

It's politcal, and a prime example of how low this bunch will stoop to practice their Goebbels-style propaganda...

16. I keep praying the Bushies get caught
for 911 and the whole country realizes they were responsible. These releases would make it good timing. We wouldn't need impeachment if the public knew what really happened. There wouldn't be enough pieces left to impeach.
