Baseball fans cheer Bush, boo Bonds
The Major League Baseball season began in full swing Monday with two controversial figures receiving vastly different receptions from fans.

President Bush received a loud standing ovation when he took the mound to throw out the ceremonial first pitch. San Francisco Giants slugger Barry Bonds, who is pursuing two legendary home run figures while embroiled in a scandal for alleged use of performance-enhancing drugs, was booed when he came to the plate for the first time in the second inning of the Giants' season-opener.

Little American flags were distributed to the crowd of 42,000 before the game. Fans waved them excitedly as Bush was introduced and drowned out the few scattered protesters, like the family sitting a few rows behind home plate wearing matching red-and-white T-shirts that said “11-04-08” — the date of the next presidential election.

Bush, the former Texas Rangers owner, told Fox Sports Network in a gametime interview that he has been a baseball fan since birth.

3. Standing ovation?
You're kidding! I'd have to see it to believe it! I would have thought they needed to play an applause track if anything!

4. Can you say "partisan photo op", kids?
Someone should be with Bush at all times to remind him that HIS war is going on. He can watch the baseball games when his joke of a term ends.

5. "accompanied by two injured soldiers and a father who lost his son"
Now **that's** using human shields to guard against any booing -- who's gonna boo "two injured soldiers and a father who lost his son?"

Damn, is it 11/2008 YET?????

6. I am no fan of Bonds. At all. But Bush is garbage. Wish I were there.
Got a good deep voice for booing, and it would have been the most heartfelt boos for Bush ever.

7. Bonds is 1-3 with a double. Padres are winning 4-1, 7th.
Mr.Bonds is not a popular guy here in San Diego. He's hit more HRs off the Padres than any other team in the Majors.

8. Say What?
They must've only sold tickets to Freepers. I cannot believe that Bush got a standing ovation. Obviously one of his rigged appearances again.

it's the REDS!! Get it? Red? As in red part of the country.

Of course they applauded.

What a shame that they all went home unhappy as the Cubs blasted them! :applause:

19. cincinnati is not as red as you think
In 2000 the vote in Hamilton County ( Cincinnati ) went 58% Bush, 42% Gore. This time it was 52.8% Bush, 46.7% Kerry. That means that from 2000 to 2004 the ...

11. They probably only allowed Republicans to buy tickets
that's the only way he could get a standing ovation

12. There is no friendlier place on the planet for Bush
Than Cincinatti.

It's a beautiful place in a lot of ways, but it is as right wing as right wing gets.

He could have gone to Houston probably, Denver maybe, but it's not like he could open a Yankees game or the White Socks in Chicago.

because they played a tape of people cheering--wouldn't be the first time.
