Forecast calls for active hurricane season
FORT COLLINS, CO: The official forecast for the 2006 Atlantic hurricane season was released early Tuesday morning. Philip Klotzbach and William Gray of Colorado State University have forecast 17 named storms, nine hurricanes and five major hurricanes, category three or higher.

The probabilities for at least one major hurricane making landfall is 81 percent for the entire US coastline, 64 percent for the east coast, including Florida, and 47 percent for the Gulf Coast from the Florida panhandle westward to Brownsville. There is an above average landfall risk in the Caribbean.

According to the forecast, the 2006 Atlantic hurricane season will be much more active than the average 1950-2000 season.
