Regarding Tom DeLay: Is it proper for us to revel in the agony of others?
You bet your ass it is. In this case, at least.

Go dance in the streets, call your favorite right winger and ask in a taunting tone, "Who's yo' Daddy now?" or celebrate in whatever other manner you want to, and don't hold back.

That soulless excuse for a human being deserves everything that he gets. Including however many years in the slam he ends up getting.

I hope they put him in the cell with Luther.

1. Some agony.
The guy's without a job he didn't deserve, with 600 large in his pocket, and a pension.

I'll give a point to agony when he's in prison.

2. Pretty soon, the lack of power will start to eat at him.
He lives for power. Then, he'll suffer.

Besides, I'm talking more about sticking it in rightwingers' faces that their Almighty Hammer punked out in disgrace.

7. You betcha
I don't understand people who think Schadenfreude is somehow morally wrong. If someone has caused major damage -- and the amount of damage Delay has done is incalcuable -- why shouldn't I enjoy him getting his just desserts?

9. I'm sure many Repukes are secretly celebrating also. DeLay
was notorious for playing hard-ball with votes of conscience. Repukes' secret delight in DeLay's fall brings to mind LaRochefoucauld's maxim:

"There is something in the misfortunes of our friends that does not deeply displease us."

aka "Schadenfreude"

10. You bet your sweet bippy it's proper.
The man is retiring in disgrace because he's under serious investigation for corruption that puts our democracy at risk. We should be trumpteting this from every media outlet we can reach. Delay really is the heart of the Republican party: callous, corrupt, greedy, and vicious.

13. You're Goddamn Right It Is!
Hell, it feels GREAT! Probably about the same way they felt over Monica Lewinsky! I had a great time listening to Blowhard Limbaugh this morning; even the right wing nutcases were starting to question his position. It's about goddamned time these people got wise to the fact that their politics aren't helping, and their politicians are undeserving of their support.

Listen, I'm new here, and as such, can't start threads yet. Can anyone help me connect Delay, Abramoff, and Marylin Musgrave? I live in the Colorado 4th, and we're trying to get Angie Paccione in. Thanks in advance, but bear in mind: If we're gonna get the People's House back, it's gotta start NOW! I'm thinking we could draw a parallel between WW2 homefront rationing, and what we have to do to win this November. Go without cigarettes for a day, and put that money in a jar. Stay home and work around your house, and don't put your money in the gas tank, y'know? As they slowly implode from moral decay, we're gonna win our house back. Thanks for letting me vent, may you be blessed abundantly by the deity of your choice, sorry if I violated any forum rules w/ this post; Sean Hannity's coming up next, and I can't wait to hear what his rationale is!

It's a nice word I learned at DU. Gloating might not be appropriate, but it is fun.

21. of course
and like Ed Schultz said today Delay will still be active as a lobbyist, consultant or whatever, make some mega bucks, and go to dinner like usual... We're talking about a guy who believes in no form of social welfare... he deserves no mercy.
