Another BushBot breaks his rightie ties
This morning I received an e-mail from a friend (Matt) in CA who will be directly impacted by the shutdown of salmon fishing this season. He wanted a bunch of us to send e-mails to Congress asking them to find another solution than to totally embargo fishing.

I replied with links about how Rove and Gordon Smith (R-OR) collaborated to send water to the ag fields and not to the fish. That resulted in some of Matt's pubbie buddies responding in a totally partisan manner, nothing to be surprised about. But what thrilled me was Matt's reply this afternoon when he returned from work:

Hey Greg thanks for the links I will check them out. I am starting to see the light and I am realizing that its not the color I thought it would be. Bush and his band of lunatics have been selling out the environment and a lot of guys I know are fed up with it. These are the same guys, me included, who were gungho for Bush and swear we will never vote republican again! I am still conservative in some areas but looking at the death and destruction that this current administration has brought, its criminal!! Hope its not to late. Can you say r__o__tion? There are other ares to look at to. The salmon farmers must be throwing a lot of money towards the Bush machine. The salmon farmers are looking to buy parts of the ocean to raise salmon in and call them wild. It's like the rocky mountain free ranging chickens. Very very sad. Thanks for the replys. As you have read some of my friends are still hanging on.

Matt

5. For Many Many Years
The right has been propagandized with little or no rebuttal from Democrats, whether by design or through plain underestimating one's foes. Since they heard no rebuttals, they assumed many mistruths as truths.

8. it's like the Sopranos....
when you watch the Sopranos, you see the guys act knee jerk like they think all that patriotic bs is real...it's almost as if they never even think about it at all, just say what they heard, and trust it's right. but it's not right. People think civilization is natural, that law unholds itself, and you end up with a gov that tortures people even if they never did anything...as if it's dark ages all over again.....soon, you'll see 'trial by endurance' or something even worse

Too late re Bush, but he said he will never vote Republican again. That's a relief.

6. Salmon spawning in the Klamath river is very poor because water
levels are too low due to so much water being shunted off for agriculture. Low water and high parasite infestations are being blamed for poor reproduction in the Klamath salmon. (a little background I picked up on NPR this morning.)

What NPR didn't mention (and I didn't know) was that donations from the salmon "ranchers" are part of the problem.

The livelihood of many fisherpeople depends on the wild salmon thriving. But let's be realistic -- how much money do subsistence fishermen donate to Republican politicians.

7. here are some other replies from this morning
After I sent Matt the info about Rove/Smith, urging them to stop electing R's, I got this:

That's right, vote Democrat. They'll increase the salmon population by having the male fish spawn with each other, and then taxing the hell out of them so that the illegally introduced snakehead fish can have free education and health benefits. Then, during the Save the Salmon celebrity telethon Kanye "Jesus" West will so profoundly state "George Bush doesn't care about fishes..." And George Clooney will have the thesis for his next speech entitled "Hollywood was on the forefront of fish rights.... We were making progressive films like A River Runs Through It and Free Willy when America still thought it was right to keep our flippered brothers & sisters in tanks for our amusement!" ...freakin hippies

This came later:

You're right, in the thousands of years salmon have existed here, their water supply could never possibly have been compromised prior the Bush Administration. I'm sure they're gone forever now, because water was diverted from the river for the first time in history. And no, according to the GOP global climate change has been happening FOREVER, not suddenly today because of the 15mpg SUV, cow flatulence, and strippers' hair spray. If the hippies wouldn't faint at the sight of a felled tree they would be able to see the evidence in its growth pattern.

Obviously this one is still drinking the Kool Aid.

So the hockey-stick chart showing generalized warming, and the increase in atmospheric CO2, the melting tundra -- these are just evil left wing imaginings...?

I wonder if he owns a lot of stock in Exxon, maybe? That would make me want to believe the treehuggers were just being hysterical. I mean, profits like that are not something to be pooh-poohed on the whim of a bunch of selfish people who want to breathe and walk on dry land......

edited to add further ranting.....
