Can you help? I'm confused about the leak.
When I first read about it on DU, it sounded like Libby said Bush* approved the Plame leak, which would be illegal. But on the news tonight, it sounded like Bush* approved a leak about intelligence on Iraq, which would be a political mess, but not illegal.

Which is it ... or is it all part of the same thing?

On edit: As usual, it's all going to come down to the spin.

3. It's important to remember
that the conversation with Judith Miller that resulted from Bush authorizing the "leaked" information included the disclosure of Plame's identity. Anyone who doesn't believe Bush authorized the disclosure of her name is living in a fairytale. You're right, though..it'll be spun and spun.

4. There is no entity other than the WHIG that is responsible for the take

WHIG - White House Iraq Group

//Side point tidbit from the web: "Barton Gellman and Walter Pincus, in the August 10, 2003 Washington Post (http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn/A39500-2003Aug9?language=printer), seem to have broken the story of the White House Iraq Group, with credit to Josh Marshall for keeping the story alive."
http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=White_House_Iraq_Group //

Members:

(Bush - Cheney)
Rove - Card - Libby
Hughes - Matalin
Rice
Hadley - Wilkerson - Calio

These are the responsible people - none - none has the authority to act independently of Bush-Cheney - either or both.

This entire group make up the case for war. It was formed to 'market' the war.

One of them might step forward and take the blame for leaking to save Bush, Cheney, or both.

Who the first 'leaked to' person is , is another 'is'.

Edited to add Card. I forgot Card. He organized it according to other people writing on the net.

5. Good points
We need the equivalent of "the blue dress". Given his careful and deliberate manner of investigating this, I think Fitz might just have it, complete with the stain.

10. Of course he knew ... I never doubted that
I just wanted to know what Libby actually accused him of. The spin gets so confusing sometimes.
