That could be insulting to some of our gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender members. I think you should be more careful with such talk. Idon't think it is kind to our GLBT members to imply that there is something bad or wrong about what they may be doing...and your post seems to imply that you DO think so.
I really wish you would take the feelings of others into account before you make nasty jokes. Haven't GLBT people been the butt of enough jokes, for long enough? Haven't they had enough grief, already...without coming here and finding more?

Dubya, endlessly posing as the quintessential war-mongering, brush-clearing manly-man, has gone to great lengths to create the perception that he is the opposite of homosexuality. Fundies and other far-right lunatics view gay men as blasphemous, diseased, or inherently weak, no matter how ridiculous or unfounded those stereotypes are.

To see Bush posing with a pair of panties might naturally suggest a joke on the preposterous hypocrisy of his projected image. Instead of being a rugged, pre-Brokeback cowboy, Dubya instead appears to be a caricature of the homophobe who's still in the closet.

In brief, you're correct--it's insensitive and far too easy to mock gay stereotypes. But when the punchline is delivered by a posturing asshole like Dubya, the temptation to crack the easy joke can be difficult to resist.

that which is so easily forgotten. And that is...the EFFECT a "joke" like this has on the GLBT community, most of whom are, for good reason, Democrats. I just want people to be a little more careful and a little more sensitive. I think that GLBT people already suffer enough without having to come here and see that sort of insensitivity.

I only know about half a dozen members of that community, but if it makes you feel any better, I'm confident that they'd have made pretty much the same joke about Dubya.

Still, your point is well taken--we're all on the same side (that is, against Dubya), so it would seem to be common courtesy not to insult your friends and allies.

That still does not excuse the insensitivity. The joke was, in my opinion, in poor taste. It was deliberately insensitive to a group that, for the most part, are on the same side we are.

This is my opinion, and I stand by it. I thought the "joke" was insensitive, and in very poor taste, and potentially insulting to some of our allies.

While the GBLT crowd might not want to count him among their numbers, plenty of straights don't want to include him in their bunch either.

And it is pretty damn funny to think about him giving a state of the union address in skivvies like that. Could be the only thing that makes his SOTU speeches bearable and a real reversal of the public speaking classic about picturing the audience in their underwear. W could have gotten that notion just as wrong as he has everything else.
