Authorities prepare for massive protest

FORT MYERS: Tens of thousands of people are expected to rally Monday in Fort Myers to protest the immigration bill moving through the U.S. House. Law enforcement is gearing up for huge crowds.

Authorities say as many as 40,000 people might show up, and they are literally preparing for this like it is a hurricane.

A flyer being distributed across Southwest Florida asks all immigrants to demonstrate Monday at the flea market on Ortiz Avenue. It calls for immigrants to skip school and work, and not to buy anything.

At 3 p.m., the plan is to march down Ortiz Avenue then turning onto SR-80 - taking over the thoroughfare as they head towards Terry Park.

Well we have had the snowbirds all winter, at least this traffic tie up will be for a good cause.
