NEW POLL: new GOP/Bush lows.."We've lost every advantage we've ever had"
Edited on Fri Apr-07-06 02:08 AM by Bluebear
WASHINGTON - President Bush's approval ratings hit a series of new lows in an AP-Ipsos poll that also shows Republicans surrendering their advantage on national security — grim election-year news for a party struggling to stay in power.

Democratic leaders predicted they will seize control of one or both chambers of Congress in November. Republicans said they feared the worst unless the political landscape quickly changes.

"These numbers are scary. We've lost every advantage we've ever had," GOP pollster Tony Fabrizio said. "The good news is Democrats don't have much of a plan. The bad news is they may not need one."

There is more at stake than the careers of GOP lawmakers. A Democratic-led Congress could bury the last vestiges of Bush's legislative agenda and subject the administration to high-profile investigations of the Iraq war, the CIA leak case, warrantless eavesdropping and other matters.

"By a 49-33 margin, the public favors Democrats over Republicans when asked which party should control Congress."

4. It's a long way to November, and we still have to...
bust our asses on every possible seat.

Remember-- all politics is local, and no matter how bad the Schmuck-in-Chief is doing, people vote for pothole fixing, good schools, and all the other stuff that affects them.

Don't depoend on them voting for a Democrat just because Shrub sucks.

11. you're assuming elections
in America are an honest process. Repugs will not lose power in November, I am sorry to tell you. They can't afford it.

Jail, you understand. It's all over. Diebold has taken care of it all, they keep both houses.

17. Give it a rest. Elections in this country...
have always had some fraud involved. Sometimes a lot of fraud. I grew up in NYC when Tammany ran the show and remember the scandals in Boston, Chicago, Philadelphia... to say nothing of all the ways Dixiecrats had to keep the "right" people in power. It was Democrats who taught Republicans how to steal elections.

And districting has always had a lot to do with it.

Anyway, that they are out there stealing votes is no reason for us to just give up.

33. who's giving up?
I just said it's naive an stupid, really, to believe the GOP will give up power in November.

They have already stolen 06. Electronic voting has made it much easier. It's in the bag.

I said that in 02, I was right. I said that in 04, I was right.

35. Election fraud has NEVER been committed on the scale....
...perpetrated by the NeoCons in 2000, 2002, and 2004.

The software in the electronic voting machines is the issue here.

There is currently NO way to protect the software in those machines from being hacked from remote locations.

There is currently NO way to know that the software in those machines is not shifting votes based on sub-routines programmed into them.

The NeoCons are NOT stealing elections the way folks did it in the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s. These people have hijacked the entire process.

The sooner YOU understand what we're dealing with, the sooner you'll stop insulting everyone's intelligence by telling us that "they've always done it in the past".

34. Absolutely right. They simply must...
...hang onto the House and Senate. They will steal whatever elections necessary to achieve this.

27. Now that, I've done.
And I must say my daughter handled it perfectly. I didn't want her to go off to College a few years later and fall prey to the Credit Card Companies that target teens fresh out of High School, thinking they'll lure them into massive debt. Of course we had a LONGGGG talk before she got it and I explained how they work, how the interest works etc. She's had one for 6 years now, she's 21 and she's been more responsible than me. ;) I think she's scared as hell to get her own, she's seen the horror stories first hand from some of her friends at school and knows exactly what I meant when I warned her about them. Some kids are $20,000 in debt to Credit Card Companies already and have to file bankruptcy at 21 years old. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Damn, she graduates in about a month and I'm so damned proud of her! :)

to school.. His ATM card worked, but having a credit card was kind of necessary too.. He paid all the bills on time, and had no trouble..but he's the responsible kid.. The middle one..NEVER IN A MILLION YEARS !

Edited on Fri Apr-07-06 02:23 AM by Us vs Them
Sure it's good news that the GOP is losing support, but whenever you see a quote from a Democrat from now on, it needs to contain a hope that we will win our seats in Congress back, so we can start to put this country on the right track again.

12. Here's the HEADLINE for the Daunted Dems of DC
Take heed:

"Democrats made their biggest national security gains among young men, according to the AP-Ipsos poll"

This is what happens when you start saying words like IMPEACHMENT and CENSURE out loud. When you show even the slightest signs of backbone.

But the "talk only" bump will fade quickly. And older men are not so easily swayed.

Yes, it's really necessary to DO SOMETHING. You must make the accusation, then follow it through and exact the punishment.

This is the show of strength that "the demographic" respects and responds to. Even if they disagree with everything else you say and do.

Go ahead. Focus-group it.

15. Only 40 percent of the public approves ( down 9 from a yr ogo) Nat. Sec.
In the past two congressional elections, Republicans gained seats on the strength of Bush's popularity and a perception among voters that the GOP was stronger on national security than Democrats.

Those advantages are gone, according to a survey of 1,003 adults conducted this week for The Associated Press by Ipsos, an international polling firm.

• Just 36 percent of the public approves of Bush's job performance, his lowest-ever rating in AP-Ipsos polling. By contrast, the president's job approval rating was 47 percent among likely voters just before Election Day 2004 and a whopping 64 percent among registered voters in October 2002.

• Only 40 percent of the public approves of Bush's performance on foreign policy and the war on terror, another low-water mark for his presidency. That's down 9 points from a year ago. Just before the 2002 election, 64 percent of registered voters backed Bush on terror and foreign policy.

19. Please note that this is NOT due to anything the dems in congress did
it is in spite of them. They have run away from confrontation for at least six years, and they are still running away from it. Look at the censure resolution and that tells you everything
