WASHINGTON - Veteran White House reporter Helen Thomas was "thrilled and very honored" recently when she found some 1,200 roses of every shade filling her Washington, D.C., office.
She has Clarity Sanderson of Sandy to thank.
The Democratic activist from the heart of Republican country - the state that gave Bush the largest margins of victory in both his elections - wanted to reward Thomas for her hard-hitting questions of President Bush on why America went to war in Iraq.....Thomas, who gave the roses to soldiers at Walter Reed Hospital, said the gift was a "total surprise" and was "flattering."
Bush had not called on Thomas in the last three years, but allowed her to ask a question during a news conference in March. Thomas, who had received an avalanche of criticism for her harsh writings about the Bush administration, warned him he "would be sorry." ....

It's obvious from the pictures, Helen was thrilled and did not expect anything of this nature to happen.

I'm sure the staff and patients at Walter Reed appreciated the beauty of the Roses.

More than one member here posted, "This created a sense of community".

Thanks to all who worked "hands on" to make it happen.

And now, people are reading news about an Act of Kindness by people who simply showed their appreciation to someone.

Some don't get it, some don't like it and some hated it (on the other side)



This kind gesture will be treasured and remembered by many for a very long time.

Maybe it will inspire other reporters to do their jobs!

I like the fact that the reporter repeated Helen's questions in case some readers missed the original exchange.

No real need to mention DU in the article because we did it to thank Helen, not as a publicity stunt for DU.

I told him to use the photos the volunteers took (which I hadn't taken the time to properly give credit to) and told him to give the credit to DU. Here is his response:

I thought they used the photos. Sorry. I understood they would work and
even wrote a cutline for them. Oh well, guess they didn't make print.
