16. $2.99 all over now!
It was $2.62 just last week in Willits.

Good thing I don't drive much is about all I can say. So we are back to $3.00 a gallon once again! :argh:

3. $2.699 in central NC
But I've seen it at stations for $2.759. And this is for regular. :( An analysis I read said that this is a "preemptive increase", anticipating higher demand for summer months. Fuck that.

40. Prices always seem to get worse the further east you get in NC.
I don't know why that is, but that's been true for many years. I feel your pain.

43. until you get to Raleigh
at which point gas prices go down ~$.10/gallon compared to Durham. They go back up again as you continue Eastward past Raleigh.

But you know what? Fuck 'em all - I'm going BIODIESEL, BABY! Just as soon as I can afford the new car...

we've just gone up to $2.59.

Still WAY too high, IMO...but I understand MO has some of the lowest prices in the country.

5. I know just how you feel!
I was there for much of the winter and it was not a vacation. I think the least I paid for gas was $2.61 and the most I paid was $2.76. The car was a gas hog, too.

can people eat if they are disabled ed?

I wouldn't mind paying the euro prices if the money was spent on people, rather then mega corporations bottom lines.

45. The answer to that is not simple
Basic qualified incapacity to work benefit is c. $100 a week. That's paid to anyone below normal retirement age. Those who are mentally or physically disadvantaged, as opposed to too sick to work, receive different types of benefits.

Aside from that our National Health/Insurance isn't exactly free - that's a misconception. It's original intention was to provide equal health care and benefits to all regardless of income. The main funding is paid by the working population in addition to income tax. Both are paid weekly or monthly on what is refered to as PAYE i.e. "pay as you earn" and payments are deducted at source by employers. The actual NH rate paid by an individual is 11% of gross income and the employer pays 12% on top of that so the aggregate is c. 25%. Nowadays its known as stealth tax for a variety of reasons.

I do not believe it follows that all NH contributions go into the system any more than road tax is used to build and maintain roads of revenue from fishing licences goes wholly to river authorities. Money for friggin' Iraq must have come from somewhere.

The whole system is creaking / cracking as the percentage of the population above retirement age compared with working pop increases < State pensions also come from the same fund >. The health side is worsened by people coming into the UK solely for medical treatment and then refusing to pay following NHS treatment to which they were not entitled - that issue is currently being sorted as it's to the detriment of our own pop.

I see notes for time to time ref. medical prescriptions over your side. I'm 62 and as when I was 60 all prescriptions became completley free of charge - that is due to our NHS system. <used to be 65 for men but they had to change it to avoid charges of sex discrimination as women have always been 60>.

I've kept the above as simple as possible. If you or any others want any further info maybe best to contact me direct if you so wish.

Come live here! We're already the most densely populated state around. The trick here is to not waste half your gas tank trying to maneuver around the zillion cars navigating a crappy 3 lane highway.

Do more than your fair share: bike/carpool/walk/bus to work one day a week; combine errand trips and walk/bike on some errands.

I know the gas there is just as high, but for some reason, with th Bush connection here in FL, it just pisses me off more thinking our money goes directly into his pocket.

I'm amazed there is no bitching on the news about this.
