List the songs you plan to play if/when we win in 2006 and 2008
Assuming that we are able to take this country out of the darkness of GOP leadership and back to the glory days of real leaders like Clinton, what music do you plan to play to mark the occasion?

My party mix will consist of:

Here Comes the Sun (Beatles)
Ding Dong the Witch is Dead
Celebration (not sure who sung this)
One More Time (Daft Punk)
Music from Return of the Jedi
Free At Last (DC Talk)

and for election night:
Eye of the Tiger

G.H.W. Bush beat Dukakis. He was gloating. When Bill Clinton beat Bush I so wanted to call Rush and ask him to play it again!

we can move forward, it's true there will be scars from this administration which will last
generations but we must have truth, as long as we live in the midst of fear, deception
and lawlessness - we have nothing.

but the American people don't buy it anymore.

http://www.niehs.nih.gov/kids/lyrics/happydays.htm

So long sad times
Go long bad times
We are rid of you at last

Howdy gay times
Cloudy gray times
You are now a thing of the past

Happy days are here again
The skies above are clear again
So let's sing a song of cheer again
Happy days are here again

Altogether shout it now
There's no one
Who can doubt it now
So let's tell the world about it now
Happy days are here again

Your cares and troubles are gone
There'll be no more from now on
From now on ...

Happy days are here again
The skies above are clear again
So, Let's sing a song of cheer again

Happy times
Happy nights
Happy days
Are here again!

by Ritchie Havens is nice. I also like "Come Together" by the Beatles.

I'm thinking that we might dedicate Gary Puckett & the Union Gap's "Young Girl" to Mr. Doyle.

29. You know what the original inspiration was...
for "Come Together?" Originally it was going to be a campaign theme song for Timothy Leary's presidential run. Which would explain why John wrote the first two verses while tripping. :-)

Probably my favorite Beatles song, if I have to pick just one.

was originally conceived as a theme for Timothy Leary's proposed campaign against Ronald Reagan for Governor of California, the walrus is clearly none other than John Ono Lennon himself."

32. Here's our current Theme song:
"We're not gonna take it" Twisted Sister....

Oh We're Not Gonna Take It
no, We Ain't Gonna Take It
oh We're Not Gonna Take It Anymore

we've Got The Right To Choose And
there Ain't No Way We'll Lose It
this Is Our Life, This Is Our Song
we'll Fight The Powers That Be Just
don't Pick Our Destiny 'cause
you Don't Know Us, You Don't Belong

oh We're Not Gonna Take It
no, We Ain't Gonna Take It
oh We're Not Gonna Take It Anymore

oh You're So Condescending
your Gall Is Never Ending
we Don't Want Nothin', Not A Thing From You
your Life Is Trite And Jaded
boring And Confiscated
if That's Your Best, Your Best Won't Do

oh.....................
oh.....................
we're Right/yeah
we're Free/yeah
we'll Fight/yeah
you'll See/yeah

oh We're Not Gonna Take It
no, We Ain't Gonna Take It
oh We're Not Gonna Take It Anymore

oh We're Not Gonna Take It
no, We Ain't Gonna Take It
oh We're Not Gonna Take It Anymore
no Way!

oh.....................
oh.....................
we're Right/yeah
we're Free/yeah
we'll Fight/yeah
you'll See/yeah

we're Not Gonna Take It
no, We Ain't Gonna Take It
we're Not Gonna Take It Anymore

we're Not Gonna Take It, No!
no, We Ain't Gonna Take It
we're Not Gonna Take It Anymore

just You Try And Make Us
we're Not Gonna Take It
come On
no, We Ain't Gonna Take It
you're All Worthless And Weak
we're Not Gonna Take It Anymore
now Drop And Give Me Twenty
we're Not Gonna Take It
oh Crinch Pin
no, We Ain't Gonna Take It
oh You And Your Uniform
we're Not Gonna Take It Anymore

Heard it the other day and I felt so nostaligic for Clinton. Remember how awesome it felt when he won, and took the oath?!?

Even with this current regime, we STILL accomplished so much and they haven't rolled very much of it back.

I miss 1992.

(my CD that I was working on for 2004 is in this topic...

Things Have Changed - Bob Dylan
Peace Train - Cat Stevens
Fortunate Son - CCR
Johnny B. Goode - Chuck Berry
I Feel Free - Cream
Assorted * quotes
What a Fool Believes - Doobie Brothers
Revolution - The Beatles
Sympathy for the Devil - Rolling Stones
Na,Na, Hey, Hey, Goodbye (or whatever it's called) - Steam
Won't Get Fooled Again - The Who

Oh, and "Born in the USA." It was written about OUR side, not THEIRS. Springsteen even asked Saint Ronnie not to use it in '84 - apparently his people didn't read the lyrics:

I got in a little hometown jam
And so they put a rifle in my hands
Sent me off to Vietnam
To go and kill the yellow man

Come back home to the refinery
Hiring man says "Son if it was up to me"
I go down to see the V.A. man
He said "Son don't you understand"

I had a buddy at Khe Sahn
Fighting off the Viet Cong
They're still there, he's all gone
He had a little girl in Saigon
I got a picture of him in her arms

A democratic majority is only a teensy first step. An important, essential one, but only a step.

We'll have a tremendous amount of work to do, getting Democrats to work on behalf of their actual employers and not the corporate interests who fund their re-election campaigns.

47. Dancing in the Streets ( Martha and the Vandellas)
This'll surely be the first tune for me!

Dancing In The Streets - Martha And The Vandellas

Calling out around the world
Are you ready for a brand new beat
Summer's here and the time is right
For dancing in the street
They're dancing in Chicago
Down in New Orleans
Up in New York City
All we need is music, sweet music
There'll be music everywhere
There'll be swinging swaying records playing
Dancing in the street

Oh it doesn't matter what you wear
Just as long as you are there
So come on ev'ry guy grab a girl
Ev'rywhere around the world
They'll be dancing
They're dancing in the street

It's just an invitation across the nation
A chance for folks to meet
There'll be laughing, singing, music swinging
Dancing in the street
Philadelphia, PA
Baltimore and D.C. now
Can't forget the Motor City
All we need is music, sweet music
There'll be music everywhere
There'll be swinging, swaying, records playing
Dancing in the street

Oh it doesn't matter what you wear
Just as long as you are there
So come on ev'ry guy grab a girl
Ev'rywhere around the world

Dancing
They're dancing in the street
Way down in L.A.
Every day
Dancing in the street

WE WILL ROCK YOU

Buddy you’re a boy make a big noise
Playin’ in the street gonna be a big man some day
You got mud on yo’ face
You big disgrace
Kickin’ your can all over the place

We will we will rock you
We will we will rock you

Buddy you’re a young man hard man
Shoutin’ in the street gonna take on the world some day
You got blood on yo’ face
You big disgrace
Wavin’ your banner all over the place

We will we will rock you
We will we will rock you

Buddy you’re an old man poor man
Pleadin’ with your eyes gonna make you some peace some day

You got mud on your face
You big disgrace
Somebody better put you back in your place

We will we will rock you
We will we will rock you

54. "Masters of War"
Either the original Dylan or live Pearl Jam version, as a farewell to Bushco:

Come you masters of war
You that build all the guns
You that build the death planes
You that build the big bombs
You that hide behind walls
You that hide behind desks
I just want you to know
I can see through your masks

You that never done nothin’
But build to destroy
You play with my world
Like it’s your little toy
You put a gun in my hand
And you hide from my eyes
And you turn and run farther
When the fast bullets fly

Like judas of old
You lie and deceive
A world war can be won
You want me to believe
But I see through your eyes
And I see through your brain
Like I see through the water
That runs down my drain

You fasten the triggers
For the others to fire
Then you set back and watch
When the death count gets higher
You hide in your mansion
As young people’s blood
Flows out of their bodies
And is buried in the mud

You’ve thrown the worst fear
That can ever be hurled
Fear to bring children
Into the world
For threatening my baby
Unborn and unnamed
You ain’t worth the blood
That runs in your veins

How much do I know
To talk out of turn
You might say that I’m young
You might say I’m unlearned
But there’s one thing I know
Though I’m younger than you
Even jesus would never
Forgive what you do

Let me ask you one question
Is your money that good
Will it buy you forgiveness
Do you think that it could
I think you will find
When your death takes it’s toll
All the money you made
Will never buy back your soul

And I hope that you die
And your death’ll come soon
I will follow your casket
In the pale afternoon
And I’ll watch while you’re lowered
Down to your deathbed
And I’ll stand o’er your grave
’til I’m sure that you’re dead

55. Dance into the Light by Phil Collins
It’s there in the eyes of the children
In the faces smiling in the windows
You can come on out, come on open the doors
Brush away the tears of freedom

Now we’re here, there’s no turning back
We have each other
We have one voice

Hand in hand we will lay the tracks
Because the train is coming to carry you home

Come dance with me
Come on and dance into the light
Everybody dance into the light

There’ll be no more hiding in shadows of fear
There’ll be no more chains to hold you
The future is yours - you hold the key
And there are no walls with freedom

Now we’re here, we won’t go back
We are one world
We have one voice

Side by side we are not afraid
Because the train is coming to carry you home

Come dance with me
Come on and dance into the light
Everybody dance into the light

Do you see the sun - it’s a brand new day
Oh, the world’s in your hands, now use it
What’s past is past, don’t turn around
Brush away the cobwebs of freedom

Now we’re here, there’s no turning back
You have each other
You have one voice

Hand in hand you can lay the tracks
Because the train is coming to carry you home

Come dance with me
