I pass this pickup with a W’06 sticker, and the guy sees my lefty stickers

…He then speeds up to catch up with me on my right, and rolls down his window and signals me to do the same, and I roll down my passenger window, and this guy (typical blue collar looking guy with a buddy or co-worker riding shotgun) yells: “Why is that American flag upside down, why don’t you have an upside down Mexican flag?

I yelled back that the upside down flag is an internationally understood maritime distress signal, and our country is in serious distress, and I’m a Vietnam veteran and I love my country.

His response: “Yeah, the country is fucked up because of that asshole Bush!

My response: Well, I’ll bet you voted for him!

His response: He hit his forehead with the palm of his hand, (you know, like David Byrne does as he sings “Same as it ever was……same as it ever was”), then he rolled his eyes, laughed and drove off.

That is an interesting gesture, slapping your forehead with the palm of your hand, kind of the opposite of flipping someone the bird. I’ve used that gesture myself on occasion, after some stupid driving on my part, to indicate that I screwed up…sorry!

It was obvious that this guy was a very recent convert to the ranks of bush-disapprovers, and that his conversion was ALL about the immigration issue, but it was still pretty cool welcoming him on board.B-)
