Why do you stay home on election day?

It has come to my attention that there seems to be a group of people who have expressed a desire to stay home on election day should a Democratic candidate that doesn't meet their approval end up on the ballot. Of course, I find this puzzling because, putting aside the concerns about electoral transparency, most Republicans are in office because of base solidarity on election day. Realizing that Dems require the same kind of base support in order to turn the ongoing political debacle in this country around, if you do stay home on election day, why do you?

vote absentee, so i always vote but technically not on election day.

my reason is not listed in the poll above, i live in TEXAS, there is no reason for me to go out on election day

kind of pointless to leave the house on election day here

When that candidate is a Democrat, I am very happy. But I vote for the candidate, not the party.

of apathy. Hell - all they have to do is maintain the apathy. With only 65% of Americancs voting.. they can steal elections till the cows come home.

It's pretty sad that people aren't motivated to at least try to make a difference.

I vote for the candidate that I feel represents my interests best. No party has a lock on my vote. Of course, our state's candidacy laws are so archaic that my choices are usually pretty limited.

..I vote for the "other" guy. Either a Progressive Democrat (hard to find around here, seriously), or (more likely) the Greens.

And we vote by mail! Yay us!

...participation. When you think of the current batch of national holidays and how they are invariably spent, there is no (legitimate) excuse for not declaring Election Day a national holiday. If there was a practical way to do it, I'd go so far as to suggest that voting should be required by law. Since that isn't practical, and admittedly, might be unconstitutional, there should be a quorum requirement of sorts. In any election where fewer than 60% of eligible voters take part, the results should be declared null and void and a new election ordered. If they had to do it anyway, perhaps people would start to take the franchise seriously.

Then I go to the PFAW-Election Protection call center as an early morning volunteer and get home as the polls close in the East.

Absentee is a paper ballot with a paper trail.

Actually, I didn't "stay home" because we vote by mail, but I did not vote for the Congressional seat. The only position I've not voted for since 1966. Got a raving RW'r that year, but 2 years later the Dems put up a progressive who's now on his 3rd term and should win easily in 'O6.

I have never missed a Presidential or Gubernatorial election. And I have always voted Dem in all these elections.

I joined the Michigan Democratic Party shortly after I turned 18. I'm 21 now, and I don't ever plan on not voting. I hope for a long life of voting for Dems.
It's not that I walk lock-step with the party. The Democratic Party speaks for me.
