Summing up the Abramoff scandal in two words everybody can understand
Protection Racket

Anybdoy who has ever watched a Godfather movie, The Sopranos, or Goodfellas can understand that.

Then tie it into the real life Godfather in the protection racket, the Extorter in chief, George W. Bush.

1. Yeah, this is what he was running, isn't it? And the penalty
for not doing what he wanted? Ask Gus.

3. Hey Walt
I read somewhere that "The Godfather" was Abramoff's favorite movie, and he would constantly quote dialogue. Is this an example of life imitating art?

"When I despair, I remember that all through history, the way of truth ... has always won. There have been tyrants, and murderers, and for a time they can seem invincible. But in the end they always fall. Think of it. Always." - MK Gandhi

4. It's far deeper than "protection", unless you consider that
getting the rules changed a form of protection. They are buying Congress, piece by piece.

Bush himself has lost interest in the legislative progress since he decided that he was above any law. Naturally, he'll sign any law now and simply add a rider that declare that the law is only for everyone but him.

5. It's an extermely complex scandal, which is why I'm trying to simplify
the explanation.

Joe Barcalounger won't understand the inbtracacies of the scandal. He will understand Protection Racket, though.

6. Minority party Repubs steal $ from Indians to fund coup d'etat
to make themselves the permanent "majority."

That's the high concept "sell" of the scandal.
