BERLUSCONI DEFEATED!! (Updated--Trans Gay Rights Leader Elected to Parliament)
Based on exit polls released just a few minutes ago, DIRELAND's Rome correspondent Judy Harris -- a veteran ex-pat journalist and a former Italy staffer for the Wall Street Journal and TIME magazine -- delivers the good news: Silvio Berlusconi is toast!

ROME -- The very first exit poll released Monday placed Romano Prodi¹s "Unione" center-left coalition sufficiently ahead of the "Casa della Liberta" (House of Liberty) headed by multi-billionaire Premier Silvio Berlusconi (left) to make a victory by Romano Prodi (right) appear a virtual certainty. It appears also that the center-left has captured the Italian Senate as well as the lower house of parliament in this election -- the first to use proportional representation in 13 years

4. He's looking at a possible trial for corruption, isn't he? Too
bad he couldn't think of a way to get it so that he couldn't be prosecuted AFTER he got out of office.

5. 1) after the 2000 bush power grab--and the subsequent diebold machines,
i can't yell, "victory", until all the votes are counted, certified, and the winner of an election declared the victor...i am keeping my fingers crossed for the ousting of "belusca", as the italians are fond of calling him.

6. I wouldn't celebrate yet
All these news stories are based on exit polls. If I remember from 2004, those can turn out to be 180 degrees from the final 'tally'.

7. Unless they're using electronic voting machines, the exit polls
will accurately reflect what the final results will be. Of course, there could be widespread fraud, but it's doubtful it would almost all be on one side as is the case in the US.

11. Did they use DRE machines in the Ukraine election?

And don't forget, the conservatives may be 'shy' about giving out that information!

8. I just wonder
if their exit polls are anything like ours. He'll squeak by and all the press. Owned by Berlusconi starts to explain why the exit polling was incorrect.

It's a good week after all. Bush implicated in Plamegate. Mass demonstrations. Berlusconi has been defeated. A trifecta!
