"Nearly 50 (FBI) agents chasing down Abramoff leads across the country"
Is Jack Abramoff the gift that will keep on giving? And will he destroy the Republican Party?

It's not a coincidence that Tom DeLay resigned his leadership post--which he was forced to temporarily abdicate once he was indicted in Texas on charges of laundering campaign funds--days after Abramoff, the corrupt-Republican-lobbyist-turned-snitch, cut a deal with the feds that will require him to tell all. That certainly will entail sharing whatever he knows about his intimate relationship with DeLay and DeLay's closest political associates, as well as what he knows about other GOP lawmakers, staffers and high-powered Republican operatives (such as Ralph Reed and Grover Norquist). News reports have already said that up to twenty lawmakers and aides are already in the crosshairs of federal prosecutors thanks to Abramoff and Michael Scanlon, his former partner in sleaze, who also has been cooperating with the feds.

With nervous Republicans angling to toss DeLay overboard, the indicted ex-House majority leader had not much choice but to jump before being unceremoniously shoved aside. But GOPers still have reason for fear for at least two reasons:

1. Before you get too excited, don't forget that the Attorney General
Gonzales will be overall in charge of this.

2. Maybe someone will find something that ties into Plamegate and thus the
info can be passed off to Fitz.

3. He's done a terrible job crushing the initial investigations & indictments
Why hasn't he stopped it before it was made public, I wonder? Maybe he can't.

10. Not only that but Mueller (sp) who is head of FBI....
None of these folks are trustworthy under this administration. If we get all excited and it ends up being far, far less than we thought it will be very discouraging. I'm also worried that the media is building it up ...because they aren't trustworthy, either.

We just have to hope that there are enough connections there that there may end up being some civil suits by folks involved in this and that will end up down the road in exposing all of it.

This is so massive they can't let it get out of control...so they will limit it to keep it from bringing the whole system down.

5. Absolutely correct. They are an integral part of the crime machine.
Along with the Congress, the CIA, the Supreme Court and the Pentagon. The fix is in. When and how the American People can regain control of the government is the big answered question.

7. And they never find anyone unless their brother or someone
turns them in. I swear to god, they never seem to do ANY legwork that pays off.

9. I think there are some in the FBI who are pissed off
and are helping to do in this admin. I also think that they are bypassing the AG and going to news outlets or others who they find are friendly. I think there are a lot of ex-military who want to get this admin for what they are doing to their buddies. I wouldn't be surprised if more and more of the crimes are leaked to those who could do the most good with the info.

12. I think so too. Same deal as the CIA, there are a few decent folk who
can't stomach this what this admin has been doing.

11. Some staffers may suddenly start "remembering things" that the FBI
might want to know about even before the FBI contacts them. Rats don't usually wait for the ship to sink before they start running.
