Bush caught in flat-out, bald-faced lie
US shelved evidence discounting Iraq's WMD: report (<-- actual article title)

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Bush administration publicly asserted that two trailers captured by U.S. troops in Iraq in May 2003 were mobile "biological laboratories" even after U.S. intelligence officials had evidence that it was not true, The Washington Post reported on Wednesday.

On May 29, 2003, President George W. Bush hailed the capture of the trailers, declaring "We have found the weapons of mass destruction."

But a Pentagon-sponsored fact-finding mission had already concluded that the trailers had nothing to do with biological weapons, the Post reported, citing government officials and weapons experts who participated in the secret mission or had direct knowledge of it.

The Post said the group's unanimous findings had been sent to the Pentagon in a field report, two days before the president's statement.

<snip>

The three-page field report and a 122-page final report three weeks later were classified and shelved, The Washington Post reported. It added that for nearly a year after that, the Bush administration continued to publicly assert that the trailers were biological weapons factories.

<snip>

The team's work remains classified. But the newspaper said interviews revealed that the team was unequivocal in its conclusion that the trailers were not intended to manufacture biological weapons.

"There was no connection to anything biological," one expert who studied the trailers was quoted as saying.

29. Ok, I was wrong, Dean is trying to make something of this.
I admit to being surprised and wonder if Dean has some inside information on when W found out.

I suppose that Dean could just be winging this because he's already listed as a wild speculator.

2. but but but maybe he didn't get the report
I am sure some minor flunky will be fingered with the blame. "Darn it, if only he had been given that report in a timely manner...its a big government..." Then eventually we will learn that he was given the report and decided to spew his lies anyway...

Hell, they KNEW the WH leaked Plame's identity because they were leaked TO.

Yet, how many allowed the GOP operatives to USE their news shows to call Wilson a liar and smear him for almost two years, KNOWING FULL WELL the truth?

Seriously.... I used to keep a list titled "Outrage of the Day". When it turned into more than one outrage per day, I sorta lost track.

Is there a master list of Outrages?

8. wow, that is a first
Not.

"Administration officials have consistently sought to portray the distribution of benefits from the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts as balanced or even progressive. Recently, for example, the Treasury Department released a “Tax Relief Kit,” which includes a fact sheet entitled “Who Pays Most Individual Income Taxes?” The fact sheet makes two main points: that “the individual income tax is highly progressive — a small group of higher income taxpayers pay most of the individual income tax each year,” and that the burden these taxpayers bear has increased as a result of the tax cuts enacted under the Bush Administration."

This one was even covered by Franken, and they are still telling it.

23. David Cay Johnston's book Perfectly Legal puts that 'tax burden'
argument the R's love to bed. We essentially have a 'flat tax' of around 20% of all taxation (state, federal and local taxes). This means a regressive tax system overall for the vast majority of taxpayers who aren't among the top 1 and 1/2 percent !

Please read the book, you'll be able to blow many R's minds !

Only I got it for my brother. I told my siblings I was hoping they would re-gift the books I had gotten them so I would get a chance to read them.

I can already hold my own in a tax discussion, but like the Treasury report, they just ignore the facts, or make their own bogus statistics and charts.

11. Because * ignored documents, nearly 6000 Americans are dead.
Documents like this re. Iraq, and the August, 2001 PDB.

Almost 6,000 Americans dead, who knows how many wounded or mentally disabled, and at least 100,000 Iragis dead or wounded.

Certainly * should be judged historically as among the most evil men who ever lived.

What a proud day that will be to call oneself an American !!!
All revenge for 911 will be taken on this "little mouthy -nutcase- of a Muslim man"!
And he will live in future generations of "hate America" terrorists as a Martyr. :scared:

I heard that the agent who tried to push the information forward ... oh, never-mind, she had to resign, but HER boss, who stalled further investigation - was promoted. :puke:

31. The whole kangaroo court reports have been sickening.
He was a dead man when they first picked him up. I am sure they kept him for future sacrifice in light of what they were planning. I had to stop reading the articles it was so disheartening to know he will die for simply thinking.

They need a sacrificial sheep for the blood hungry masses. I would have thought that all the Afghani and Iraqi blood were enough by now. :grr:

I believe he is a disturbed human. His execution will be a travesty.

It's not like he was really into all of those warnings and test scenarios they were discussing. He just said, "We're prepared" as if just saying it made it true.

At the time of Katrina I read predictions of over 10K dead. I don't believe the much lower body counts especially since not all areas were searched and bodies are still being discovered.

The * administration and the total lack of leadership is the biggest threat to Americans' lives right now.

15. MINITRUE: Those trailers never existed...
Edited on Wed Apr-12-06 10:29 AM by originalpckelly
...and Colin Powell never mentioned them in his speech at the U.N. In fact the official story was that this was a joke by Saddam Hussein. He only wanted us to think that, but we were smart enough to figure out that he was lying.

We also went to war in Iraq because we wanted to remove him from power, not because of WMD. We knew he didn't have significant quantities of WMD, and we touted that to the world. We just wanted to remove him from power to protect his people. There won't be a civil war that kills hundreds of thousands more than Saddam.

Osama Bin Laden is an unperson, so we couldn't have lost him at Tora Bora.

Sunni Muslims weren't the ones who attacked us on 9/11, it was Shi'a Muslims. We must attack Iran to get their weapons of mass destruction because Iran attacked us on 9/11 and we can't risk a nuclear 9/11.

There was no FISA law or Fourth Amendment, so they cannot be broken.

We have never helped establish international law preventing torture, so how could it be illegal?

In fact there was no such thing as the Constitution, so it cannot be subverted.

In fact there was no American Revolution, and we have always had a King. All hail King George, all hail King George! He is great! Long live the King!

The economy is booming, so it is impossible to have people without healthcare and pensions. People are rich in America, and there is no problem with buying on credit like before the Great Depression. In fact the Great Depression didn't occur, so it is impossible to draw comparisons between the Savings Rate going negative right before it happened and the rate going negative last year.

In fact there wasn't even a last year. There wasn't a book 1984, so how can you draw comparisons? You weren't even alive last year. There was no yesterday, you weren't alive then. In fact you aren't even alive now. So how can you be reading this and be worried?

32. he's been taped lying.
he lied while delivering the state of the union. he has no conscience, no empathy, no soul. hateful, absolutely hateful..."we don't want to go to war"

blah blah bullshit. so with the latest out now about the plame outrage, i wrote on my blog, <i>
now, i ask bush supporters: HOW CAN you Stand this president
and his LIES!?

hasn't he lied enough yet to convince you that he is bad
for our country, our democracy, this government that is
supposed to by, for, and of the people, and is growing
rapidly into a government that is only by, for, and of
bushies?!

i hope someone will respond, i really do, because i really
would like to know how anybody justifies continuing to support
this bastard with the incontrovertible evidence of his
repeated lies, to us, the people he is sworn to serve.

thanks</i>

and was rewarded with the following comment <i>

Oh, yeah, like YOU'VE never lied?! We all bend the truth from time to time to serve our needs and make our lives a little easier. I mean, just today I told my wife that the $6000 RealDoll she found in our garage was bought solely so that I could use the carpool lane. And she believed me! Now our kids won't have to go the through the pain and confusion of a divorce, my wife won't have to learn to use a cash register, and I won't have to learn to do my own laundry.
See? Tell a little lie, and EVERYBODY wins!

-- Donald R. </i>

so apparently popular belief holds that the more a wrong is committed the more right it becomes.

i'm so discouraged by what's gone on since the bushies came into power.
