Here is the state of our "union"
Sikorsky Aircraft makes the Black Hawk helicopter. The CEO is George David ( i was always a bit freaked out by people with two first names). in 2005 George David made 58 million dollars. Yes, over a million dollars a week.

over $25,000 an hour.

near $500 a minute.

Over 5000 times the annual pay of a minimum wage worker.

He has an apartment in Manhattan with 9 bathrooms.

In 2004 he was paid 88 million.

for the past month, the 3600 workers at his company went on strike because David demanded they pay twice as much on their health care co-pays.

it would have cost him 31 cents per hour to keep the worker health benefits whole.

the workers lost.

and that is the USA today. good times...

First off... how much money does a man need to make this life comfortable enough to live in? I mean really Mr. David, is this cushy enough for you yet?

Second... Do you really think that men who get paid this much money won't falsify evidence to go to war so they bankrupt a surplus and give it all to their friends? Won't steal two elections by whatever means necessary? Won't use tactical nuclear weapons on Iran? Won't let a city flood so they can make money off the reconstruction? Won't kill their own soldier/NFL football hero who would have come home and protested the war? And finally... Won't sacrifice the lives of 3,000 people by crashing planes into two towers in order to get EVERYTHING THEY EVER WANTED?

I'm irrational right? Has it come to that? I'm irrational and war is rational. George David's paycheck is rational. American Taxpayers paying 5 Billion last year in defense contracts to murder innocent people while they don't have enough money for health insurance...

rational.

George David made over 1000 dollars while you read this post.

1. I'm all for people making bucket-fulls of money in a capitalist economy...
...but that's just bullshit. Any CEO so greedy that he cannot share just an infintesimal fraction of their wealth (as in this case) for their workers is a capitalist predator, does not understand or believe in compassionate (and I hate to use that word because of what GWB did to it) capitalism and is essentially a leech on the body of the company and its workers.

6. Those CEOs are NOT capitalists.
As you point out so well, they are indeed leeches - they take from their workers, and also the shareholders who actually own the company. Notice that there is no true shareholder democracy - the cost to run an alternative slate for the board of directors would cost millions. Other than that, one can merely withhold ones vote from the existing slate. Stalin could not have exercised tighter control.

CEO pay is a travesty. Companies grind workers into the dirt, bring in illegal alien labor, falsely certify labor shortages to justify H1-B visas, all in the name of profits - and then they spend tens of millions for CEOs. This is plutocracy at its most despicable.

Leeches they are indeed - and that's an insult to leeches everywhere.

10. You are right... this is not capitalism, it's corporatism. and its GREED.
we're talking greed as a virus. a disease. It has eaten his soul like cancer. And it is spreading...

it is what will eventually turn us into a third world nation. and there is no doubt about that.

24. if IS capitalism
corporatism IS capitalism

this is the inevitable consequence of unregulated capitalism

the only way to make "capitalism" work is to regulate it to the point that it is more socialism than capitalism.

7. And I read fast.
This message, in one form or another, needs to make it into the public psyche. It needs to be repeated, especially with war stories and wart horrors like these. 0.31 an hour less and his workers would have had real relief? I guess, if you have 8 baths in a condo, your bowel problems require a whole different kind of relief.

nice post!

17. Comparing the President of the U.S. to CEOs shows perspective
I think if you took the largest annual salary of every President we have ever had, going back to George Washington, it wouldn't add up to what CEO's of companies like Tyson make in a year. A company that has been accused of human rights violations throughout the country.

I'm sure if you are a writer you will check your facts, but make sure to on this... because there are a lot of loose numbers out there. I heard about this from a friend and found his numbers were already way exaggerated... I did a lot of research and took the "greatest hits" of the stats... anyway, you probably would do this already... but just sayin... PLEASE use it for a column, that's why i shared it here and on my blog... it needs to be heard!

United Technologies Corp., the parent company of Sikorsky Aircraft, has spent millions of dollars to force huge cuts in health care benefits for all of its hourly workers across the board.

Sikorsky is flush with cash, having reaped enormous profits in the wake of America's war on terrorism. Because the war is far from over, the company stands to receive millions more in taxpayer dollars in the months and years ahead. Elected officials in Connecticut and across the country harshly criticized UTC and Sikorsky executives throughout the strike for failing to negotiate in good faith, and for the lack of accountability to the American taxpayers.

UTC STOCK:

Stock price went from around $25 before the war to almost $60 a share now.

30. Excellent.

Nine fucking bathrooms. Holy crap.

Reading things like this enrages me & I think it would enrage a lot of right wingers, too. We need a summary on several CEOs to show that this predatory practice is prevalent. Reading this type of info on several CEOs could possibly break through their kool-aid haze so they would finally see the connection between the current administration, the looting of our treasury & destruction of the middle class.

Arianna Huffinton's "Pigs at the Trough" was a good read. It pissed me off big-time.

33. Unbridled Corporatism.
How ANYONE, Repuke, Dem or otherwise, can defend this is beyond the pale. No one NEEDS that much fucking cash. You should read Perfectly Legal to have your blood boil even further at all of the perks the government gives these mammonically wealthy motherfuckers at the behest of the taxpayer. It's not just government contracts - it's no-interest grants. It's corporate welfare. It's pork. And no matter how you slice it, the little guy's getting it in the arse without lube.
