Another update about the Scalia incident
Edited on Wed Apr-12-06 06:53 PM by DemGirl7
Ok, last time I updated which was Monday, I didn't get any kind of trouble. Well since then, I was alerted by some here on DU that some idiots at some conservative forum were talking about what I said, and they were saying that they contacted my University and the chair of the Political Science Department about me discussing the incident on this messageboard. They said that the Chair was mad at me for what I did, and for "going public" with it, and the Department is writing an apology to Scalia about the incident.
Well today, I had the class with the professor who is the chair, but I didn't attend, because I wanted to get some things cleared up first. I took the time to meet with my advisors at the University, who told me that there is no way that there will be any punishment of any sort for the Scalia incident(HAHAHAHAHA lurking trolls),and there is nothing that will be done for me "going public" on this messageboard about the incident(God,these trolls act as if I sold the story to a newspaper for money, and even if I did I have a right its called Free Speech).
I have to thank all of you on DU again for all of your support, during the last couple of days.
Love DemGirl7
:)

And thanks again DemGirl7 for asking the tough questions. These people WORK FOR US, and they somehow have gotten it into their heads that they're BETTER THAN US. They need to be kept in check, which isn't being done right now by the parties who are supposed to do such things. So Americans like you are the constant reminder with reality.

What you did took courage, and for that I salute you! :patriot:

comment at the time - I applaud your brain and bravery. You asked reasonable questions, in an appropriate setting. That you also exposed a man who is a dark symbol of the lack of intellectual, ethical and moral vigor in our present Administration, was simply a (tasty) side effect.

I also applaud your University and its personnel for recognizing your First Amendment rights.I am always filled with hope when I see youngsters of your caliber in action.

29. Hon, they can't do crap to you. . .
for one thing, you could take a lesson from the freeptards who file lawsuits constantly with universities demanding their free speech rights to attack others. . .so you are certainly entitled to the same freedom of speech, even if the freeptards don't like it. That's their biggest problem - they think they deserve special rights to criticize others, but no one can criticize them.

35. Ok this is what Scalia said to me...
Concerning the Cheney Enegry Task force case, he basicly said just because he is friends with VP, doesn't mean that they discussed the case, concerning the Hamdan case, he said he never said that he made up his mind about the case before it came before the court, and finally concerning Bush v. Gore, he said it was totally irrlevant to the case that two of sons were working as lawyers for the Bush legal team, during the litigation phase. Complete BS, because we all know he is a liar.

I know it is sometimes hard to believe. Ecspecially these days.

But we still have a bit of freedom. We still have the Constitution and the First Amendment.

Tell them all to kiss your a$$. Wave a copy of the US Constitution in front of their faces. Tell 'em to read it and give you a ten page paper on what it means to be American.

Double-spaced, APA style.

I would have gone to the class anyway. I understand you wanted to get all your ducks in a row, but I would have gone to class and stood up for myself. You were in the right to use your first amendment right and he knows it. I would have looked him square in the eye and he would have had no choice but to back down.

when you try to get into law school. They have long memories because hatred is all that sustains them.

Retaining council NOW will make this much less likely THEN.

Especially as said council will have had conversations with the people who could effect whether you get a recommendation or not.

57. My guess is that these trolls who called your school
didn't provide their real names to whoever they spoke to. (That is, if they really did call or email your school, as you report they boasted.) They would be too cowardly to do that.

If I received a communication from someone who was alleging wrongdoing on the part of a subordinate, student, whoever, I wouldn't take their accusation seriously unless I could confirm the authenticity of the accuser. I would request that the accuser provide a phone number so I could confirm their identity. If it was a telephone call that first reached me, but the accuser refused to provide a call-back number, I'd call law enforcement, and report that someone was harassing my student, and also attempting to manipulate me to that purpose. They'd find out who made the call.

If the accuser reached me by email, I'd contact the ISP. Or(more likely)if it came via anonymous email account, I'd ask some of the students at the computer help desk to help me find out where the email was made. I had a friend who was receiving some harassing emails from an anonymous account, and he spoke to some of the guys at his university's comp help desk. They handed off the request to a couple of other comp sci students they knew, who needed less than one hour to determine that the email had come from a particular library in another state. From there, the library was able to determine who was using their PC at that exact time. Boy, was the harasser ever surprised to find himself tracked down! Ha! ha!

Comp sci students love to do this kind of sleuth work. And if they don't know how to do it, they always know someone who does.

So, if any trouble comes out of this, just ask your prof for the email info.

66. too bad if the FREEPERS don't like the TRUTH about fat Tony Scalia
who should have recused himself on all the issues you aptly cited. You stuck it to him with the truth and if the freepers don't like it, screw 'em. Let them sue and then we can bring fat Tony up for impeachment.

70. That is good news... thanks for the update...:-)
I had to chuckle.... I think you really found his hot spot check out what the twerp said this week....

Eyewitness News 3 out of Hartford reports that Justice Scalia has no regrets for not recessing himself from the Cheney/Energy case last year.

"For Pete's sake, if you can't trust your Supreme Court justice more than that, get a life," Scalia said.

Thinking back to how he handed Demgirl7 last week, he seems to be having a hard time getting over it. It is almost like he was referring to her comments from the week before.

"I think the proudest thing I have done on the bench is not allowed myself to be chased off that case," Scalia said.
