Report Raises New Questions on Bush, WMDs

By NEDRA PICKLER, Associated Press Writer 38 minutes ago

WASHINGTON ........

Bush spokesman Scott McClellan said Wednesday that Bush was relying on information from the Central Intelligence Agency and the Defense Intelligence Agency when he said the trailers seized after the 2003 invasion were mobile biological laboratories. That information was later discredited by the Iraq Survey Group in its 2004 report.

......

McClellan said it was unclear whether officials at the White House were aware of the contradictory field report when Bush repeated the claim in the television interview.

"If and when the White House became aware of this particular issue, I'm looking into that matter," McClellan said. "The White House has asked the CIA and the DIA to go and look into that issue."

The Post did not say that Bush knew what he was saying was false. But ABC News did during a report on "Good Morning America," and McClellan demanded an apology and an on-air retraction. ABC News said later in a clarification on its Web site that Charles Gibson had erred. McClellan said he had received an apology.

WASHINGTON - The White House faced new questions Wednesday about President Bush's contention three years ago that weapons of mass destruction had been found in Iraq.

......The Washington Post reported that a Pentagon-sponsored team of experts determined in May 2003 that two small trailers were not used to make biological weapons. Yet two days after the team sent its findings to Washington in a classified report, Bush declared just the opposite.

"We have found the weapons of mass destruction," Bush said in an interview with a Polish TV station. "We found biological laboratories."

Bush spokesman Scott McClellan said Wednesday that Bush was relying on information from the
Central Intelligence Agency and the Defense Intelligence Agency when he said the trailers seized after the 2003 invasion were mobile biological laboratories. That information was later discredited by the Iraq Survey Group in its 2004 report.

The CIA and DIA publicly issued an assessment one day after the Pentagon team's report arrived in Washington that said U.S. officials were confident that the trailers were used to produce biological weapons. The assessment said the mobile facilities represented "the strongest evidence to date that Iraq was hiding a biological warfare program."

5. Why did the assholes keep saying it for a year> This is total
bullshit. If Bush didn't know he should have waited to find out what the truth was before he went on TV and spouted off on something he didn't know about. He's either a liar or imcompetent. Take your pick.
By the way, Clinton is still waiting on that Whitewater apology.

and if he didn't, he failed in his responsibility to publicly correct his error when it was brought to his attention. I am so sick of him pleading the "ignoramus defense".

8. How about an ABC apology to the citizens of the United States along
with all the other useless media in this country.

Don't even try to tell me or anybody else, media empires, that you didn't know what EVERY member of
congress knew --- that the case for the Iraq war stunk to high heavens well before the war resolution
was ever approved.

NYT, WA POST, the four networks, and the rest of you...we, the people, demand an apology for your useless
and utterly wasteful use of resources and your clear cooperation with the * administration to trick
Americans into supporting this tragic war.

23. Hell yeah, I guess we're not important
enough to get an apology for irresponsible reporting. Oh, I forgot- you can't criticize a President in a time of war!

Roll over ABC, we don't need you. It was only by accident that I found out that you were the media that had Scotty in a twit about today. "Get out of our way, please".

11. Let's see.
Tony Blair absolutely knew the trailers contained weather-balloon support equipment back in 1993. The fact was reported in the British press at that time, so it's unlikely the Prime Minister wouldn't have found out that way, even if he didn't know from his own sources.

It is also unlikey that, if Bush didn't know at the same time, Tony would have told him in one of their frequent meetings and phonecalls. After all, is it really credible that the Chimperor would say "gee, Tony. It sure is lucky we found those biolabs. Otherwise our asses would really be hanging out," and Tony (who was in full asskissing mode at the time) would just look away and start whistling? No, even if the CIA and the rest of the intelligence apparatus didn't tell him, Tony would have.

If not Tony, Chirac in France would have taken savage delight in saying, "Zo, Monsieur Boosh, it would appair zat zees waypons of which you speak are, how you say, bullsheet." After all, we were all bleating about how mean the French were and renaming fries at the time.

12. I think the ABC apology should have said: We were wrong that
Bush knew about the biolabs. Evidently, Bush isn't kept informed about, nor is aware of, vital national security information. We apologize for the confusion.

When the WH Press Secretary (the two Rons) would denounce almost daily as "Irresponsible" reports that turned out be completely accurate when the truth was finally dragged out.

22. Has there ever been a time when soooo many media outlets
have either apologized or printed retractions for stories unfavorable to the White House? Even when those stories were true?

I hope someone is documenting all these cases and writing a book. It would be an impressive condemnation of the American media.
