Whoa. . .now THIS is an amazing little GOP story. . .
I pulled this from an AP post on 365gay.com. . .it seems that a rather pleasant sounding tranny is running in the primary against Roy Blunt in southwest Missouri. Now I know she's Republican, but seems pretty sound in her views. . .maybe we should take a look at this:

(Springfield, Missouri) In many ways, Midge Potts is like other everyday citizens who feel the call of politics. The self-described fiscal conservative and Eisenhower Republican is running a one-person primary campaign against five-term congressman and House Majority Whip Roy Blunt in southwest Missouri's 7th District.

A few things set Potts, 37, apart from many Republican candidates. She thinks President Bush should be impeached over his domestic spying program, for example. And she used to be a man.

Potts, a Navy veteran who served in the early 1990s as Mitchell Eugene Potts, is a transgender person, a man who feels a call to live as a woman.

Potts has been living that way full-time for about two and a half years, taking herbal supplements to make her body's hormones more female, changing her legal name, dressing in women's clothes and wearing makeup.

6. I recall when he took the breath away from one disabled lady
He took away the Medicaid that paid for her oxygen. Without it, she would die a painful death. This was reported on the Springfield local news, which I get in NW Arkansas. I've never heard what happened to her, but her plight and those like her have turned many Missourians against the Blunts.

3. I going to go out on a limb....
and say the transsexual does not win the Republican primary.

I could be wrong, but that's what my gut feeling is.

4. I know...and don't ya love the nasty quotes from the local GOP whores
about her? The woman has been running a campaign on a whole $500 - I feel like stopping by her web site and extending my good wishes. I know she's Republican, but she sounds reasonable to me, and Blunt has his nuts tied to Abramoff as much as many other Repukes do. Besides, I'd like to see a tranny kick some fundamentalist butt. . .

5. That's good news
There ARE progressive folks living in Springfield-some come to our regular Dances of Universal Peace meetings at a Unity church there. I wish Ms Potts all the best. Blunt and his son are seen by many as arrogant and unconcerned with the plight of the disabled and poor. Potts may get more votes than they expect.

11. dances of Universal Peace
I can't believe I ran across someone who actually knows what that is!! I used to do that too...........except we did ours at a Religious Science church. But Unity is a good church too!

Back to the candidate though..........she sounds like a very impressive person!! I still can't figure out why she's running as a conservative but I wish her lots of luck! I hope she wins!

She's got a lot of nerve to run against those no-gay-marriage people!!

16. I've been doing the Dances for 17 years
We have had musicianship and leadership training with the leaders of the Center for the Dances, and present them in three different venues in the month (our website is http://www.ozarkdancecircle.us ). I'm glad to meet someone here who has done the Dances! I hope you are able to do them again.

17. wow! 17 yrs!
thanks for the website. After looking at your site, it's possible that we may have met sometime. I've also been to a couple of retreats............at the Heartsong shrine in Deer, Arkansas and I've also been to the Sufi Center of the Ozarks.

Yes, I hope to do the dances again too. My job requires me to work nights so it's hard to do much with a schedule like mine. But if I'm ever in Missouri, I might check out one of your dances.

18. It is very possible
Espabad and Neferti have the Sufi Center, and are now leading Dances themselves with some regularity. Heartsong, alas, is not doing much these days; Khabir has retired from his job and is spending more time, I believe, travelling and selling his artwork. By all means, though, come and be welcomed if you are in the area.

19. I didn't know a lot about the Ozark camp before I went.......
....but I really enjoyed it!! The dancing was, of course fun but I also enjoyed the lectures too!

My friends..........they're the ones who ran the dancees here, are long time friends of Khabir. I really love that octagonal building at Heartsong! When we went to the camp at Heartsong, it was over a long weekend. One night we all went into a huge cave and did dances and meditations in there! And we went a long way into the cave! It was a truly unique experience!!

I'll keep the page and check it out if I get up there again. Oklahoma is not that far from Missouri.........

Even Eisenhower would be a Democrat today, or so I'd like to believe.

10. I would love to see her get just enough steam
to make the fundies head's explode. . .and to make Blunt stammer over how to handle the candidacy.
You know, if we had some savvy DU'ers down there, they could expose how the Party brass is treating her - cuz you know it's gotta be with disrespect.

14. So she is actually "a lady in waiting" on her surgery, right?
So from a technical POV, she is still male.

I just about gagged when I saw this line: "To have her run as a Republican is not the craziest thing, because there is a part of the Republican Party that is fiscally conservative but shows support for personal choice."

Personal choice? I uess that is only for guys, not women and their uteruses per GOP guidelines?

15. Well, certainly not from the religious Right. . .
I do think the significant thing about watching her campaign evolve will be the exploding fundie heads who try to dismiss her. . .and then rant that she has no right to serve. . .that kind of thing. She doesn't have such awful beliefs, at least in her political web site. .. sort of libertarian/liberal in many ways. Definitely not a wingnut.
