they're white? They kinda look like Mexicans to me. You know, not all Mexicans are 'brown'.

Not all N. Americans are white, and not all Mexicans are dark complected. I know quite a few S. Americans who are light complected. Not that it matters to anyone, but I'm really tired of all the negative comments about 'white' people. As far as I'm concerned if you make derogatory remarks about one race you have no right to complain about what you call racism toward another race. Just sayin'

Are you talking about race, color, or nationality? What does their color matter anyway? Mexican is a 'nationality'.

It's been happening mostly in construction and landscaping in my area. The entry level, unskilled jobs are all going to immigrants, many of them illegal. A few years ago the pay was $6.00 to $10.00 an hour, and now it's minimum wage or less (when it's under the table).
Some companies are actually discriminating AGAINST US citizens and hiring ONLY immigrants.

in presidential campaigns, because of a few psycho-haters. Southerners have as much stake in the state of our nation as North Easters, Rust belters and Left Coasters.

I'm fine with targeting Florida, Arkansas, Virginia and maybe North Carolina.

I understand wanting secure borders. I understand wanting immigrants to be here legally. I truly understand. What I have a problem with is the lack of understanding when it comes to the immigration laws in this country and how our current laws make it impossible for poor Mexican people to come here legally. Not hard. Not tough...IMPOSSIBLE.

This is not the case for poor people in certain countries seeking political asylum. If different rules apply for people just because they are from Mexico, how can I be convinced that this is not bigotry?

It took my brother-in-law and his family 10 yrs. to come here from Peru. that caused a problem because the kids became adults during that time and couldn't come as minor-children. It all worked out in the end, but it wasn't easy.

It costs to do immigration papers. It's been a long time since I've done immigration papers, but usually you have to show that you don't have a police record and have immunizations, and have money to live on once you get here, and I'm sure you have to show that you don't have certain communicable diseases also. If you can't meet those conditions you can't get your papers. No matter where you're from. Unless of course it's political assylum(sp) or you have a special skill that this country wants. I agree that immigration laws are not fair but I don't think it's directed just at Mexicans. I suppose it would be the same for a really poor person from here to try and get immigration papers to go to another country. Right now, besides the political reasons, the focus is on Mexicans because of the massive numbers coming here from Mexico.
