67. Not much population in UT and WY...
Nor in Idaho, which is 3rd. The more populous states seem to be in the middle or toward the bottom of the list (e.g. NY at #49).

I'm so impressed by RI at #50 (tied for #49, but with more disapproval). I have spent several vacations on the RI coast and touring the Newport mansions. Maybe it's time to do it again. I know I'll be among friends. Rhode Island rocks!

77. Wyoming is quite embarrasing
I'm in Wyoming, and I wish I would get polled. I think in my part of the state around 80% voted for B---. People around here are clueless. They're so excited that Cheney is from here that they can't think of anything else. My husband met a man the other day who was very proud that he met Cheney a couple years ago. He said something like, "You know, he's obviously not real comfortable with all that money and power. All he really wanted to talk about was hunting. He's just a regular guy." Right.

107. The people of Nebraska in general level headed
The problem is the bias in the media. I had no idea, until I found it on the internet, that Senator Chuck Hagel and the states largest paper the Omaha World Herald, were in the voting machine business together.

The local media only has glowing stories about ES&S.

If there was honest journalism, his numbers would no doubt be lower.

Rather than radio stations like "Air America" preaching to the choir, this is the type of place they need to be heard.

That's pretty good.

Only 16% of Jews vote Republican.
22% of gay people voted for Bush in 2004.
And 36% of Americans believe in Alien Abduction.

I bet people in mega-Bush-lovin' states like Utah & Nebraska believe in alien abduction at more than a 36% rate!

The only people I know personally who believe in alien abduction are all Republicans and, unfortunately, relatives of mine.

pretty much the whole country has started realizing bush is nothing more than an empty suit....a puppet for big oil and the military industrial complex.

if this survey is accurate, even texas is down to a 45% approval rating for him. that's saying something because texas was about 66% bushbots over the last 5 years or so.

change Wyoming to blue. I'll be moving there next week!

When I was up there in February, I saw a car with the bumper stickers "Impeach Bush" and "Keep Your Rosaries Out of My Ovaries" and there were no bullet holes in it or anything. I also already know at least five very liberal Democrats in WY. Please remember, when these polls come out in the future, I'll be up there working my ass off to help build the local Democratic Party.

Dale Groutage Dem WY for US Senate!

Which is not to say that they would vote for some 'degenerate immoral democrat'. Most of bush's support comes from people with three kids living on 20K/yr who don't want their kids to hear any naughty words or see any breasts at half time of the Super Bowl, nevermind the fact that they are already screwing the football team at age 14. If only a small percentage more of those Ohio voters now disapproving of Bush had had the same opinion in November of 2004, we'd have President Kerry, and not Justices Alito and Roberts.

My mother says she can't comprehend how her county could have gone "Red"... she just doesn't get it at all.

Well after reading the Conyers Report : "What Went Wrong In Ohio" it's a little easier to understand.

And after 2004? The State GOP basically outlawed recounts (to hard to fix.)

Ohio's elections are sham, Flordia's too. If someone doesn't set a trap for them in 2008 I fear it's all over for American Democracy.

I heard a funny story about some people whose bus broke down in eastern Utah outside

getting nowhere. On the fourth day a guy came and knocked on the door. He said "You're

42. Too little, too late...
If they'd got that sense two years ago...

We may all be encouraged by these numbers, but they don't change the fact that we've got Bush as Commander-in-Chief until 1/20/2009. And the best we can hope for is enough of a win this November to have a chance to slow down his agenda. There's nothing, nothing we can do to stop or overturn it. :-(

Which is why seeing all the red states with negative approval ratings doesn't excite me - it only pisses me off that they came to their senses too late to change anything. :grr:

If we can get the truth about 9/11 out they'll be howling for Cheney's head even in

flipping people off.

By November it might be that Republicans will be campaigning on the impeachment

Look at all these states Bush won in 2004 where he is now below 40% approval:

Ohio, Nevada, Iowa, New Mexico, Missouri, Colorado, Virgina, and Florida.

Good thing we know the elections in all these states were beyond suspicious, right?

61. I would imagine you would have found similiar results
for Carter in 1979 and Bush41 at certain points 1992, maybe even Reagan at the depths of the early 80s recession, but that doesn't make their elections invalid.

To make that jump with Bush you have to ignore previously higher poll numbers from the same poll, but I guess some people are fine with that.

70. Stupidity and the President
Okay, here's a little something you can try at home. Open these two pages at the same time and compare the tables. Be sure to read the fine print on the second page.

The abovementioned latest SurveyUSA poll

Average IQ, by state, color coded for Bush or Kerry in 2004

_____________________

Least Bush-Hating states: UT, WY, ID, NE, OK, AK, KS, AL, LA, TX

Stupidest states: MS, UT, ID, WY, SC, SD, OK, MT, LA, AL, TX

_____________________

Seething with rage states: RI, NY, MA, VT, DE, CT, NJ, IL, PA, CA

Smartest states: CT, MA, NJ, NY, RI, HI, MD, NH, IL, DE

_____________________

Now we see what it takes to be a Bush believer. They have to be fucking idiots.

Disclaimer: I don't like or trust IQ statistics in general, and neither should you. In fact, if you read the fine print on the IQ page you'll see that the list itself was disputed and has since been retracted by The Economist. Nevertheless, it's fun to paint your opposition as stupid, with charts and colors and shit. Stupid people don't read disclaimers anyway.

74. To those of you who are angry at Ohio voters and others whose view of
the Bush junta now seems "too late" and which did not seem to be reflected in the voting in Ohio and other states in 2004, I have a question:

How do you know how any state voted? Who are you relying on for that information? What is your level of confidence in vote tabulation with "trade secret," proprietary programming code, owned and controlled by rightwing Bushite corporations, and employed with virtually no audit/recount controls?

These polls on disapproval of Bush indicate a level of discontent in the country that could conceivably beat the 5% to 10% "thumb on the scales" that I believe Diebold and ES&S have been giving to Bushites and other warmongers. That is very good news, indeed. But, a) I think it would be wise to presume NOTHING, as to this "blue state"/"red state" business, from a nearly completely non-transparent election system controlled by Bushite corporations; and b) we should include the American people in a conscious effort to overwhelm the machine advantage to Bushites with massive voter turnout, for instance, with bumper stickers like, "Help Us Beat the Machines--VOTE!".

As to the latter, people have been feeling demoralized, depressed, and disempowered. They NEED TO KNOW about election system non-transparency and Bushite corporate control of vote tabulation. And they need to be re-engaged by a campaign to beat the odds. Otherwise many will say, "Why bother? It's all rigged." And what is the answer to THAT? A lie? It ISN'T rigged? You're going to tell them that Bushite corporations "counting" all the votes with "trade secret" programming is NOT riggable--and that Bushites are not going to USE that riggability, now that they have it?

People KNOW it, deep down--even if they don't have all the facts and details. They FEEL it. And their demoralization may take a stubborn turn. But give them a GAME, give them a chance, give them Seabiscuit odds, and clue them in that the machines CAN be beaten (*), and then we'll have an election. We need a 5% to 10% BIGGER turnout than is needed to win. Huge disapproval of Bush means that we can get it--but I believe we have to be honest with voters.

One other strategy: Urge voters to request absentee or other paper ballots, wherever that is possible. This will throw a big monkey wrench into the electronic riggability. It's not the ultimate answer (because all ballots end up computerized and "tabulated" by the secret code), but it IS a form of protest against "black box" voting--it may get so big that it becomes "news" in itself (the rebellion against the machines)--and of course it provides a real paper ballot for any requested recounts, and for monitoring results.

-------

*(The election theft industry cannot afford to be too obvious, or the fascists who control it will lose their new "trade secret" programming code advantage--by people rebelling, and demanding a return to paper ballots. Also, it appears to me that, in 2004, the electronic advantage to Bush and Bushites had to be pre-programmed, and was not so easy to change on election day. This may be why they risked the highly visible violations of the Voting Rights Act in Ohio--Kerry's win was overwhelming the pre-programmed advantage to Bush in other places as well as in the central tabulators in Ohio. (They WILL try that crap again--shorting black and other Democratic precincts on voting machines, messing with the voter registration rolls, etc.--but I think Democrats will be a lot more vigilant this time, on that kind of vote suppression.) Finally, they can't just manufacture an election--not yet anyway. The Diebold/ES&S advantage cannot replace enthusiasm, support, donations and big numbers of real votes. For the most part, all they can safely do is tweak close races--and maybe reverse a few not-close races where they have wholly corrupt election officials in charge, who will cover up a big election theft. For all of these reasons, I believe that big turnout can still beat the machines--and the more anti-war and populist/progressive the candidate is, the bigger the beating will be.)
