OK: Liberal Talk Radio has taken hold, and it will grow...
So, if you could design a new liberal talk radio show from the ground up, what would it be? We have AAR, I love Stephanie Miller and Mike Malloy, Randi does her thing, Al does his. Big Eddie is out there... What is missing? What kind of a show do you need right now? In 06 heading into 08... If we could get this off the ground in 10 or 12 markets, it would grow quickly. What kind of a show?

1. Artists Radio
Have nothing but artists from all disciplines talk, perform and discuss their (undoubtedly) liberal viewpoints.

And we'll give them Red Bull and No-Doz™.

5. YES! I miss mark and mark! the new shows are just not enough to
make me want to listen so much that I would sit in my car after arriving to work to hear the last of the segment....

30. Yes, I would enjoy Mark and Marc instead of that guy
on Siruis Talk Left who always talks about himself and his girlfriend.

He is on after Bill Press. Sometimes I will be in my car for 20 minutes and not hear anything of any value to anyone but himself. I feel like I am listening to a regular morning DJ without the music.

Or they can take Lynn Samuels spot. Her content is good, but her voice is NOT made for radio!!!

3. Happy/Upbeat/We're Kickin' Ass Kinda show
Just the first thing that came to mind. I'd like something that focused on areas where we are making progress and winning, wherever that might be.

Only because there ought to be a place we all can go to where we don't feel the overwhelming sense of dread / angst and so forth that permeates so many of the AAR shows. They're great shows, mind you, but I'm just throwing this idea out there as a piece of the puzzle.

Just 3 hours of nothing but debunking what Limbaugh, Hannity, O'Reilly, Cavuto, Coulter, et al say.

34. Not bad at all
I listen to WBAI in NYC and have been a Goodman fan for over 10 years. Chomsky rocks and Kucinich could offer a unique political perspective. Great choices.

needs a larger venue with more guests. I really enjoyed his Saturday broadcasts from FL, and wish there were more 'fresh' programs over the weekend to listen to.

11. Media Matters On the Air
Wouldn't it be great if Media Matters had a daily show exposing the cruelty and horror of the Reich Wing media?

(yes, I'm partly swiping another's idea to devote 3 hours to exposing the RW radio hacks. But Media Matters does so much more, and does it so well.)

I believe concentration is a good thing. It's what makes 2 hours of Rachel Maddow (IMHO) more effective than 4 hours of Randi. So I'd say give MM an hour in a good slot, to expose the best of the worst.

But a very good idea. I also agree with the idea of concentration (2 vs.4 hours)...

29. FWIW, Franken plays short Limbaugh clips
They couldn't play long passages, but I'm pretty sure short clips are considered fair use. Someone can just read the rest from a transcript.

16. An hour of good music, like jam band music, the mammals, dread clampitt
etc. There are lots of great bands out there that can't get played on the radio and have to sell their cd's out of the trunk. I would like to hear them play their music, hear them interviewed.

17. This is not necessarily my cup of tea but I've been hearing ads
for a progressive religious show on my local AAR affiliate. I don't know if it is local or national but it is going to air on Sundays.

I've been shocked at the explosion of growth of religious radio stations. I usually come across them when traveling and forced to surf for stations.

Why just cede the market to the RW? There are quite a few new progressive religious organizations and preachers such as Jim Wallis, the nun from MTP, etc.

Has anyone else heard these ads?

This may be a different idea then what your OP was looking for but it reminded me of it.

21. A combination of Mike Malloy, Randi Rhodes, and Thom Hartmann
Take Mike's anger, Randi's humor (but not her rudeness), and Thom's professionalism and intelligence, and you'd have an absolutely unbeatable liberal talk show. Oh, and stick to the basics of rants, soundbites, occasional guests, and callers; no silly sound effects or lame bits.

Edited on Wed Apr-19-06 11:51 PM by Dr Fate
Have on top, famous movie stars, popular musicians, writers, artists, innovators, etc.

Basically, you invite on "stars" and famous people who happen to be Liberals- let'em plug their latest project and talk some politics too.

What about that "World Have Your Say" show on NPR...? Tom Aspel sounds pretty liberal to me.

I like that show - althought the topics are a bit diverse...

I just dont like the whole copycat approach that some lib hosts use...

"Al Franken...The Liberal Rush Limbaugh"

Its like when Heavy Metal bands started playing Christian worship songs...just wierd...

Christian Rock = Liberal Talk Radio
