DNC to do clean-up in New Orleans tomorrow, Dean to help clean and speak.
It is their spring meeting. They will highlight the Bush neglect there. C-Span is carrying some of this event on Saturday at 10:30.

http://localnewsleader.com/jackson/stories/index.php?action=fullnews&id=178505

NEW ORLEANS - Wielding hammers, crowbars and shovels, Democrats plan to clean out hurricane-ravaged homes in this slowly recovering city, a project designed to highlight the party‘s criticism of the Bush administration.

The choice of New Orleans for the Democratic National Committee meeting that begins Thursday was part of a political calculation, as is a three-day agenda for the 400 delegates that combines party business with community service.

"It‘s reinforcing an impression that is widely held among the public and one that will be a critical theme for Democrats across the country — namely that this administration is dangerously incompetent," said Steve McMahon, a Democratic strategist and a longtime adviser to party chairman Howard Dean .

"I‘m not sure what the Democrats hope to gain except cheap political points at the expense of Louisiana and the White House," said Glen Bolger, a GOP strategist and pollster.

New Orleans‘ population was mostly black before the hurricane. While many residents have returned to the city, some Democrats are sensitive to changes in the political landscape because thousands of voters remain scattered across other states.

Dean will help in the cleanup process and give a keynote speech that is expected to criticize the administration‘s reconstruction efforts while emphasizing the Democratic party‘s commitment to rebuilding the Gulf Coast.

1. And Tim will be blogging through the meeting. First post tonight.
http://www.democrats.org/a/2006/04/arriving_in_new.php

"I think it's impossible to NOT think about Katrina in a sincere and emotional way before the plane even touches ground in New Orleans. McConaha leaned over to me and mentioned the fact that the airport itself was transformed into a morgue in the days and weeks following the Hurricane... or as the first local I met refered to it, "the storm." In the cab ride from the airport to the hotel, you can't help but guess if the lights are out in a home, did that family ever return? You still see duct tape over the top of windows, a downtown sports bar completely boarded up, and windows in one of the high-rises near the Superdome completely blown out, but yet replaced. The Superdome... we passed right by it. I tried to put myself there and all I could do was mutter the words, "can you imagine?" Of course I can't.

Josh and I arrived safely in New Orleans for the start of the DNC Spring Meeting tomorrow morning. Democrats from across the country are milling around the hotel -- I saw Jason Willet, Chairman of the Arkansas Democratic Party in the lobby right before Josh and I received our room keys. We just went over a bit of the agenda and are excited to attend the Executive Director meeting, and maybe do a bit of community service tomorrow morning. There are community service events throughout the weekend, and it's obvious that a lot of the work will do some real good to the people of this area.

Keep checking in throughout the weekend. Here's the first photo -- from our hotel window."

9. Dems take time to go there and get their hands dirty and face the place...
Pukes did - what? Well, Little Lord Pissypants flew over and sniffed at all those peasants scurrying around and cried crocodile tears once or twice. Oh. And he staged a photo-op there a few days (or was it a WEEK?) LATER, after which all the equipment set up for his photo-op (cranes, etc.) disappeared and no further work was done.

WHO is trying to gain cheap political points at the expense of LA?

Seems the Pukes have the market cornered on using propaganda for political gain whilst pissing all over the locals.

Which makes the following graphic even MORE apropos:

Remember folks, PRETENTIOUS HYPOCRISY IS THE HALLMARK OF REPUBLICANS. And there they go again.

3. I am glad to see that Dean is speaking out more in a straight and
uncompromising manner re: Republican behavior instead of allowing that crappy DLC dictate what can and cannot be said.

This is the first I heard about the DNC cleanup project and I certainly congratulate and thank those Democrats who are taking part.

I cannot be there in NOLA for this project, but I WILL be marching in NYC on April 29th against the war and everything else the GOP stands for.

spoken out in a clear and uncomprimising manner re repub behavior, and he has certainly not let the DLC dictate to him.

5. Kick once more because every 5 minutes..."where are the Democrats?"
And when anyone posts about the things they are doing, it drops like a rock. Then 5 minutes later...where the f*** are the Democrats.

I posted about their huge response to the lying ads of the RNC, and I quoted a Kos post. I haven't seen it since it dropped so fast. But soon after that I saw someone wonder why the Dems weren't responding to the ads.

All day yesterday Dean and others responded about Rove. I think CNN quoted Dean, but I have not seen others on TV. They can't because we haven't solved the Duke rape case yet, and Natalie Holloway's case is still front and center.

So an unabashed kick before the next "where are the Democrats" post.

Re "I‘m not sure what the Democrats hope to gain except cheap political points at the expense of Louisiana and the White House," said Glen Bolger, a GOP strategist and pollster.

I don't notice the Repukes turning up their noses at "cheap political points"! Look at Dubya giving that staged performance in front of the cathedral in New Orleans, and all his other cheesy photo-ops and fool's-gold promises of rebuilding. NOT that he actually fooled anyone, even at the time.

Mr. Bolger sounds like he's afraid the Dems' "cheap political points" might be just a teensy bit more credible--as the will be! It would be hard to be LESS credible anyway.

how many of the top corporate execs would have run into those towers on 9-11, how many would
have gone down to the Gulf Coast to help after Katrina, how many stayed at work just in case
they might be needed on 9-11 or worked overtime to handle the chaos that followed. The
