Re. donations for homeless man who returned billfold.

SANTA ANA – When Kim Bogue lost her wallet last week, she had little hope that she'd recover it or the $900 and bundle of credit cards inside.

With a team of co-workers, she twice searched the Santa Ana civic buildings where she works as a janitor. They pulled bags from dumpsters, rummaged through offices, and checked all the bathrooms, but found nothing.

"I prayed that night and asked God to help me," said Bogue, who was saving the money for a trip to Thailand, her home country.

"I was sick all weekend."

That same weekend, a homeless man who roams the Santa Ana civic buildings also was searching for something. He made his routine visit to the trash bins nearby to look for aluminum cans. Instead, he found Bogue's wallet wrapped in a plastic bag. That Monday, the man, who declined to be identified, gave the money to Sherry Wesley, an Irvine woman who works in one of the buildings.

"He came to me with the wad of money and said 'This probably belongs to someone that you work with, can you return it?'" Wesley said.

I tried to find some information on where to send donations to this homeless man and when I emailed msn, I received the following email yesterday:

Hello:

My Name is Sherry Wesley and I received a copy of your email that you sent to Erin regarding the homeless man that returned the lost wallet, if you would like to send a donation to him you can send it to me and I will be able to give it to him, you can send it to :

Sherry Wesley
22 Creek Rd # 142
Irvine, Ca 92604

I can be reached at 714-402-5994-cell or 949-679-5531-home. I will be very happy to give him the donation with your blessings, and I thank you very much.

God's Peace and Blessings,

Sherry Wesley

I'm assuming this is the same Sherry Wesley that the homeless man gave the billfold to. Many on DU (as well as myself) were looking for an address where we could donate a token of appreciation to this guy. I am not in any way sponsoring or supporting or advising or encouraging anyone to send money to this address. I am just passing on the information!

2. Yeah, I wondered about continuing on with that myself,
but then when I went back to cut and paste the article, I noticed that this was the same woman who did the billfold exchange between the homeless man and the woman who had lost the money.

I decided to send a few bucks (price of dinner) to her at the given address, but certainly not a credit card or any personal information.

Quite a few DUers were trying to find information on mailing donations to this man, but none of the sites were panning out. I contacted the MSNBC site where they ran the story, and received this information from them. Actually, they contacted her with my email, and she emailed me.

3. Sunk like a rock in days, but I think the night group was most interested
in the story, so I will try once again!

4. I just received this email:
Thank You for wanting to send in a donation to him, but actually I spoke with him yesterday and he does not want any money. I am the Lady that he gave the money to and If you would like to send the money to our homeless ministry it will be well appreciated.

Thank You

Sherry Wesley

So never mind...it appears this gentleman prefers to collect aluminum cans over collecting charity. Cheers to him!
