The below is NOT an urban legend. This was in the news here in the Philadelphia area for weeks...

I recall like 15-20 years ago there being a man who had an "authoritative voice" who apparently found out a couple of things about some women and got their phone numbers.

He would call them on the phone posing as a doctor. Again, he apparently did a very good job of this....

Anyway, he told the woman that he recently treated a friend of hers for something in her scalp or hair and that he believes the person he's calling has it and unless immediate action was taken it could lead to serious complications.

In the end, over the phone and without any further corroboration, he convinced numerous women to cut off all of their hair. One time, I recall, he had the woman set her hair on fire!

Does anyone else remember this?

This kid was at his Mother's work where she was a nurse. Somehow, this kid found the file of people who had an HIV test done. He called a few of them and told them the hiv test came back positive.

I used to get a lot of crank phone calls and heavy breathers when I was a younger woman -- but that ended pretty abruptly in the mid-nineties.

my breast. the only reason it worked is because my mom was at the doctors to have some things checked out that we were all concerned with. when i realized just a pig male acting stupid, i told him, you are so sick. i am concerned if my mom is going to live or die.... and you are playing this stupid ass game about my nipple size

wasn't home and I was actually asked to take part in this door to door exams, the last thing I would do is entertain it for one second. More than likely, it would end with a few choice words and for "Mr Humanitarian", when he woke up in intensive care, he'd find another line of "work", that is, if he were able to talk with a jaw broken in 7 places. A DISTANT second response would me tentatively agreeing...
