Top General: Russia Will Deliver Air Defense Systems to Iran
MOSCOW, April 19 (RIA Novosti) - The chief of the General Staff said Wednesday that Russia would honor its commitments on supplying military equipment to Iran.

"We discussed supplies of military equipment to Iran, including the Tor M1, in the framework of bilateral cooperation, but it does not fall into the category of strategic weapons," Army General Yury Baluyevsky said after talks in Moscow with NATO Supreme Allied Commander in Europe General James Jones.

"And I can assure you it will be delivered under the control of the relevant organizations," he said.

At the end of 2005, Russia concluded a $700-million contract on the delivery of 29 Tor M1 air defense systems to Iran.

1. Oh my, we'd better get to bombing them pretty quickly...
it wouldn't look good, them shooting down planes and stuff. Nope, not good at all.
:sarcasm:

2. Not just planes -- those things can shoot down cruise missiles
I looked it up on some defense sites, and it's a state of the art system. It can operate both by itself or in a wider network. Seems very effective on targets up to 6,000m altitude.

They would certainly be much harder to knock out than Iraq's stationary radars and 'telephone line' air defense network. Plus, they also have planes and pilots of their own.

No, it's not going to look good at all if Bush thinks he's going to have 'a little surgical bombing' done to take care of things in Iran...

3. Right. Everyone needs to grasp the simple fact -
Iran is not Iraq. To hear the Dictator's talking heads, you'd think that Iran was just a carbon-copy of Iraq. Well, that ain't so...
