We should repair New Orleans because:

1) the culture, the heritage, the history, the uniqueness of the city and its people. I know, I know, if you're being "practical" or whatever the hell else you want to call it, you could give two shits about that.

2) its value as a port. Something like one third of the nation's oil comes from the gulf area which was devastated, and that isn't helping the price of gas at the station.

3) we have and undoubtably will continue to do so in regions struck by disaster. I really want to backhand the retarded little imbeciles running amuck like rabid Henny Pennys anticipating another catastrophe of that magnitude in that same place in our lifetime. New Orleans has successfully dodged the bullet for year after year and finally got hit. Shit happens. When it does, you clean it up and spray a little air freshener.

4) August 29th and the days which followed should be a source of embarrassment for the nation. The people of New Orleans were left to fucking die. We were told help was on its way. It never came. We were told we'd have time in shelters to recover. We were pushed out shortly after chimpies speech. We were told there would be trailers. In Arizona. We were told we'd receive financial assistance from FEMA. We haven't.

A lot of New Orleanians simply want to rebuild their homes, retrieve some center for their lives, and fuck the liars and their empty promises. But, now people consider removing even that simple possibility from the table? Under the circumstances, anyone having the audacity to give more than passing thought to the notion of not rebuilding New Orleans is, imo, a vile and sad excuse for a human being.

And people wonder why southerners value their heritage. JFC.
