Dimming Sun -- scheduled but NOT showing it -- anyone else?
It was scheduled to be on yesterday and today in my area. Instead they're showing some king of war program. Both days. Anybody else having this problem in their area?

4. Well, obviously, somebody does NOT want everybody to see it...
because they are refusing to show it here. I'm in the Tampa Bay area. The show was supposed to be on... it was scheduled to be on. When I look at the information about the current program, it says "Dimming Sun" but they keep showing a different program. I do believe someone told them not to run it.

18. That's the one. That was some pretty scary stuff. We don't have
what little time we thought we might have had to turn things around.:scared:

6. Yes, it's that Catch-22 that if we stop air pollution we could advance
global warming. We know we have to stop the pollution because of all the respiratory problems alone that it causes. But, they say that the dimming of the sun caused by the pollution has probably kept global warming from becoming worse than it has. The truly scary part is that they really don't know the extent of how the two work on each other. Or against each other. If we can come close to wiping out air pollution, it does nothing to stop the gases already released or the type we can't stop from going into the atmosphere, therefore, not giving us the advantage of the those air pollution particles attaching themselves to the cloud crystals and reflecting the sunlight back at the sun which has kept the global warming down a bit. Down how much? We don't know for sure. Either way, and for whatever reason, the earth is getting warmer and we are all going to feel the consequences in some way. It's just how much and when that we're not able to quantify. Yet.

8. If only they put half the money into studying how to fix the problem
that they do into profiting and causing the problem, we'd probably have the technological advance to take care of it in just a few years.

12. So pollution is actually a GOOD thing!
Christ, that's all Rush, Hannity, Savage, O'Lielly et al. need to hear. :eyes: Take those catalytic converters off those cars, let's dim that sun so we don't all die! :scared: Air pollution is our FRIEND! :sarcasm:

13. No, they missed something...

That being ocean acidification from CO2, which might turn out to be as much of a threat as warming. Pollution does nothing to protect us against that.

15. No, I didn't mean air pollution is good in any way. I was remembering
stuff off the top of my head which is a BAD thing to do especially with my head. :) I didn't explain it very well. What the air pollution has done by causing the apparent slowing of global warming has hidden the amount of danger that could be caused by it if the dimming of the sun hadn't happened. Oh wait..I think someone has posted an article down below.

Sorry if I made it sound like air pollution was saving us! Not what I meant. Air pollution is bad, very bad!

14. more here ...
>> "Dimming the Sun" investigates the discovery that the sunlight reaching Earth has been growing dimmer, which may seem surprising given all the international concern over global warming. At first glance, less sunlight might hardly seem to matter when our planet is stewing in greenhouse gases. But the discovery of global dimming has led several scientists to revise their models of the climate and how fast it's changing. According to one recent and highly controversial model, the worst-case warming scenario could be worse than anyone has predicted. "Dimming the Sun" unravels this baffling climate conundrum and the implications for Earth's future.

To find out what global dimming means for the fate of the planet, NOVA reports on the findings of the world's top climate detectives, including an American scientist who found a grim but crucial opportunity immediately following September 11, 2001, when the entire U.S. airline fleet was grounded for three days. This presented a unique opportunity to study the effects of airplane vapor trails on the atmosphere (see The Contrail Effect). Comparing changes in the daily temperature range showed that the absence of dimming from aircraft pollution alone made a marked difference to the temperature. This result hints at how much the effects of atmospheric pollution had been underestimated.

Working in Israel, Dr. Gerald Stanhill was one of the first to discover the surprising fact that less solar energy is reaching the Earth's surface. While his measurements were met with skepticism, a review of worldwide data by Stanhill and a German researcher demonstrated that during the 1980s and early '90s, sunlight reaching Earth's surface had dropped just about everywhere. Halfway around the world, independent studies by Australian scientists confirmed this disturbing diagnosis. (For more, see Discoveries in Global Dimming.)

Scientists have long known that increasing air pollution—the smog that clouds urban skies—endangers our respiratory health. But they had underestimated the impact of pollution on the amount of sunlight reaching Earth. Some scientists now believe that global dimming may also disturb rainfall patterns such as the Asian monsoon. If they are right, global dimming may be one of many factors that contributed to severe droughts and famines in Africa during the 1980s. <<

I produced a DVD of the snag so I can watch it with my family.

While ChimpCo is attempting to keep us afraid of terror, terror, and more *terror*, the real terror goes unnoticed, unreported, and unrespected.

The only question that remains is, Do the Democrats take over before the weather meltdown?

22. Saw it last week sometime (Nova)
verrrry interesting. Unfortunately I made myself a little to cozy on the sofa and fell asleep before the end. Not because of the content, just because I was tired. Just got a new DVR, gotta get Mr 'pede to show me how to record. He uses it to record that dried up old leather faced windbag Imus, need to put it to better use.
