inflation adjusted all-time high for retail gas prices
http://zfacts.com/p/35.html

$3.13/gal, recently reached in september 2005, and will no doubt be surpassed in the next few months.

note that this is higher than around 9/11, either iraq war, the iran-iraq war, carter's entire presidency, or the nixon/ford oil embargos.

i am waiting for the banana republicans to say of shrub, "damn, even CARTER wasn't THAT bad!"

5. We can't afford those Oil Men in the White House....
I predicted this after Bush/Cheney stole their first election in 2000. I KNEW the price of oil was going to skyrocket with them in office and I was most certainly correct. My friends and family looked at me like I'd grown a third eye at the time, now they understand where I was coming from. I knew right from the get-go this was going to be good news for Big Oil and BAD news for the American people.

6. it was actually a no-brainer.
i said it as well, and i'm hardly alone.

you may recall that there was a muted whine about putting two oilmen in the white house. that was what prompted shrub to make his "jawbone" statement about how he would keep oil in the $25-$30/bbl range....
