TO: ALL EMPLOYEES SUBJECT: NEW SICK LEAVE POLICY

TO: ALL EMPLOYEES
SUBJECT: NEW SICK LEAVE POLICY

There is no excuse for sickness. We will no longer accept your doctor’s statement as proof. We believe that if you are able to go to the doctor, you are able to come to work.

We appreciate your cooperation.

1. Hows about giving your employees so much work and
responsibility that they go to work sick on their own?

2. That's how it works at most places I think.
Reminds me of the last time I had jury duty. There were about half a dozen IT people in the pool and the judge was shocked and amazed that we all told essentially the same story. None of us could afford to be there because of our workloads. One guy pulled out his cell phone and held it up, "look your honor, in the half hour I've been sitting here, I've gotten ten messages."

The judge asked, "don't they have someone to fill in for you?"

The guy laughed, and replied a bit causticly, "no, most employers don't hire two people to do one person's job. In fact in IT, it's generally the other way around."

We all had to explain to his honor that even though we may get two weeks paid for jury duty or four weeks of vacation, we dare not use it because if they can do without me for a week, they can do without me forever.

3. At my place it's the opposite
They come to work sick and I send them home.

That's what happens when you have both good management and dedicated workers.

4. You gotta love managers with the attitude that you drag yourself in to work, sick or well.
That way, if the sick person is contagious, they infect everyone else in the office and everyone is sick and miserable and gets LOTS of work done. Yep. You betcha.
