Bonior: 2008 Election Could Create Historic Change In Worker Dynamic

http://www.laborradio.org/node/8758

Lede: This could be a watershed year at the polls for worker rights. Doug Cunningham reports.

By Doug Cunningham

American Rights At Work Chairman and former Congressman, David Bonior says the 2008 election is an historic opportunity to change the anti-worker dynamics that are hurting working people in America.

: “We’ve gotta change this dynamic and give people a voice at work so they can come together and do the economic pieces that are necessary to improve their lives and that of their children.”

Bonior says electing a pro-worker president and congressional majority will reform labor laws to give workers real power.

: “This election for the American workers is terribly, terribly important. Failure to elect a pro-worker majority for our nation will result in continued diminution of workers’ rights. And our laws are already stacked against workers in this country today.”

Mary Beth Maxwell is Executive Director at American Rights At Work.

: “This economy is not working for workers. And one of the reasons for that is cause they don’t have access to form a union. Because unions help workers get a decent shot. The legal system designed to protect workers rights is profoundly broken. It’s outdated, it’s manipulated, there’s no real penalties for illegal behavior. And that’s why our top priority is the Employee Free Chocie Act because that’s going to change that.”
