OSHA to probe roofer's death

The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the death of a 49-year-old Omaha roofer who fell from a roof of a southeast Omaha house earlier this month.

About 12:30 p.m. June 7, Irenio Moyorga fell off a roof and hit his head on the front porch of the house near 43rd Street and Woolworth Avenue, said Lt. Darci Tierney, an Omaha police spokeswoman.

The Omaha Fire Department transported Moyorga to Creighton University Medical Center, where he died, Tierney said.

Moyorga was self-employed but often was contracted by Rich Poisel's Roofing for jobs, said owner Rich Poisel.

Poisel said he had known Moyorga for about 10 years. He said Moyorga was known as "Angel" to his friends and family.

Poisel said he was not present when Moyorga fell. He said other workers told him Moyorga lost control of a piece of sheeting and then lost his footing, causing him to fall.

Tierney said Moyorga's death was ruled accidental.
