State Workers Prepare To Protest At Gov.'s Home
BRENTWOOD Dozens of state workers who have been laid off or seen their wages slashed plan to return the favor Sunday by going to Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's Brentwood home and telling him "you're fired" -- at least symbolically.
Members of Service Employees International Union Local 1000 will gather outside the governor's home at 11:30 a.m. Sunday and attempt to give him a giant "pink slip" as part of ongoing protests against the governor's budget cutbacks.
On Thursday Schwarzenegger signed an executive order rolling back the salaries of up to 200,000 state employees to the minimum wage of $6.55 an hour and laying off more than 10,000 of the state's 22,000 temporary workers.
SEIU members tried to give Schwarzenegger the pink slip on Friday at his Sacramento office but were rebuffed by Capitol security ...
