Loss of unions harms American workers

To the Editor:

I cannot believe that of all the “think tanks” that participated in the study in your article, “Trend of rising U.S. affluence slips backward,” May 26, did not at least stumble upon the most contributing factor as to why men in their 30s fare worse financially than their dads did.

The single largest contributing factor is that trade union membership has been declining the last 25 years. This has let anti-worker legislation become the main business of the day in Washington, D.C.

Sons will continue to fare worse than their fathers as long as American workers are content to go to their unorganized jobs.

Despite what most of the radio talk-show hosts say, trade unions are needed now more than ever before.
