Former TWA flight attendants remain hopeful
ST. LOUIS | One year after nearly 1,200 former TWA flight attendants had their recall rights preserved, none has been called back to work, and time is running out.

Last December, U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) brokered an agreement between American Airlines and its flight attendants' union to preserve recall rights for nearly 1,200 former TWA flight attendants.

The flight attendants lost their jobs after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks crippled the industry. Their recall rights were set to expire between January and July of this year before McCaskill intervened.

Since the extension, no one from that group has been recalled, said Roger Graham, a former TWA flight attendant who led the push to extend the recall rights.

1. Hmmm.
I didn't know 9/11 had anything to do with running this airline into the ground. They were already there. But go, Claire!

2. Carl Icahn dealt the death blow to this company

He was the corporate raider that gutted the company and left it to bleed to death.

4. Claire is great but this isn't hopeful for them
In order for them to be recalled american airlines would need to expand by buying more airplanes asap.

If they did that then it would affect contract negotiations for all three unions on the property all of which are or will be in mediation soon (under the Railway Labor Act, which is greatly tipped in management's favor-- hint hint to Barach's advisors this should be changed).

The pilots are at an impasse and just waiting for the mediator to release them to self help after they gave up billions (yes, that's with a B) since 2003. Suicides and divorce are rampant and are just a sign of the stress working there, unfortunately it's difficult for them to go elsewhere since jobs are only available in Dubai, India, China. To say they've had it and are willing to burn the place down to save the rate of pay elsewhere is an understatement.
