Some city workers getting 2.75 percent raises

Some Omaha city employees will get a 2.75 percent raise each year for the next three years under a labor agreement reached between the city and two of its civillian unions.

Mayor Mike Fahey made the announcement at a press conference at City Hall today.

Under the agreement, employee health insurance contributions will increase by 1 percent this year and in 2011.

Fahey outlined details of the agreements with the Omaha City Employees Local 251 and the City Functional Employees Group.

City and employee contributions to the civillian pension system will increase 4.5 percent between now and 2011. The mayor said that will help offset the $74 million the fund lost last year as the economy slumped.

Local 251 is made up of at least 650 clerks, heavy-equipment operators, library workers and others.

The Functional Employees Group has about 30 members whose jobs are secretarial and administrative. They work primarily in the city's Legal, Human Resources and Finance departments.
