March 28
March 28, 1919 - Six hundred courthouse employees in Minneapolis attended an organizational meeting of the Municipal Employees Union to discuss the benefits of unionization.
March 28, 1968 - The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., led a march by striking sanitation workers in Memphis, Tennessee. They carried signs stating, “I am a man.” Violence at the march persuaded King to return to Memphis the following week. On April 4, 1968, after speaking to the strikers, he was assassinated.
