Testimony of key witness in 1964 Jimmy Hoffa case unsealed (framed by RFK?)

CLEVELAND — A retired Cleveland State University law professor suspects former Teamster boss Jimmy Hoffa was railroaded by the federal government in the 1960s and went to court to get some answers.
William Tabac asked a federal court in Tennessee to unseal grand jury testimony that led to Hoffa's indictment for obstruction of justice in 1963. Hoffa was convicted of the charge in a Chattanooga courtroom a year later.

A federal judge in Nashville granted part of Tabac's request Tuesday. He agreed to unseal the testimony of a key witness named Walter Sheridan, but declined to release other evidence, including records of any secretly recorded conversations that may have existed.

"I'm happy because I wanted Sheridan's testimony," Tabac said.

Sheridan's testimony is crucial in determining whether a witness who testified against Hoffa perjured himself and whether the government knew it, Tabac said.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Mark Wildasin said Tuesday he's not worried about what Sheridan's testimony might reveal.

"Our concern throughout this was for the process and the sanctity of grand jury records, not what Mr. Hoffa or any particular person may or may not have said," Wildasin said.
