300 WORKERS SUSPENDED FOR STRIKING - APPEAL FOR SOLIDARITY

Imagine that you're in a dispute with an employer who decides to hit back at the union by suspending seven of its leaders. You'd be angry, you'd want to protest, so you go on strike. And the company responds not by negotiating, but by suspending 300 more workers. What do you do then?

If it's a well-known company that trades around the world, you appeal to the solidarity of the international trade union movement -- which is exactly what one group of workers are now doing.

Employees of Paul Yu, a Taiwanese company that makes lamp shades in an export processing zone in the Philippiens, need our help.

It will take you a few seconds to send off your message of protest - please do so today and pass this message on:

THE GREATEST LABOR LEADER AMERICA EVER PRODUCED

“While there is a lower class I am in it; while there is a criminal element I am of it; while there is a soul in prison, I am not free.”

Those are the words of Eugene V. Debs, who was perhaps the most outstanding labor leader America ever produced.

He was also its most successful socialist politician, leading the Socialist Party to its best-ever electoral results in 1912 and winning a million votes as its presidential candidate in 1920 — while still a federal prisoner. "The Bending Cross" is the classic biography, recently reissued. Michael Harrington called it "masterful".
