http://unionreview.com/racing-fans-nascar-cintas-stains-our-imageCintas Corporation is not a friend of labor. In March we learned that one of its workers was killed in an industrial facility in Tulsa, after being dragged into a dyer by a robotic conveyer belt; an avoidable occurrence if the appropriate safety and staffing measures were in place.
This is why we are pleased to hear that Somona, California racing fans have come together to petition NASCAR to get out of Cintas uniforms. At a website:
http://www.notonmytrack.info, you can learn of this exciting drive to get professional racers into more union-friendly uniforms.
The site is run by Unite and the Teamsters; both unions have tirelessly worked on organizing Cintas over the years; and neither have anything at all to do with NASCAR.
According to a statement sent out today by Unite, “More than 1,000 racing fans in Somona jumpstarted the NOT ON MY TRACK petition…” They say that fans are seeing Cintas as “staining the leagues image.”
The NOT ON MY TRACK drive will be visiting speedways throughout the country this racing season; if you are a fan out at the races, sign this petition, or visit their site to show your support.
Finally, I believe this is the kind of work we need to continue to be active with: getting the greater nonunion community involved with our struggles. Without general public support, some believe we are all just one big special interest group.
