Target complains in anti-union ad that it is target of unions

http://www.laborradio.org/node/11508

Lede: Target complains in an anti-union video that’s it’s become a union target. Doug Cunningham reports.

By Doug Cunningham

: “Someday, you might come into work and find pickets telling guests to not shop at Target. Or you might read articles about unions threatening to boycott our stores. None of that helps you or any other team member. After all, all of us depend on our guests for our jobs.”

That’s an excerpt from an anti-union video produced by Target stores. Never intended to be seen by the general public, it’s making the rounds on the internet. In it , the giant retailer pushes anti-union propaganda at its workers while trying to maintain a friendly “we’re all on the same team” face. It’s an effort to convince its workers that they don’t need a union representing their interests, raising their wages and improving their benefits. Target’s Jim Rowader, identified in the video as Director of Labor relations & Senior Counsel for Target tells workers Target wants to stay union-free.

: “A union would not improve anything at Target. Not for our team members, not for our guests and not for our company.”

2. When are people going to learn- if it's on paper or video, it's headed for the internet.
It's amazing that these people are supposed to be so smart, rising to the top of the corporate world, and they keep doing stupid shit.

Target (TGT) PriceWatch Alert With $34.35 Break Even
Monday, July 13, 2009 8:07 AM EDT

Target (NYSE: TGT) ended the last trading session at $37.80. So far the stock has hit a 52-week low of $25.00 and 52-week high of $59.55. Target stock has been showing support around 36.83 and resistance in the 39.13 range. Technical indicators for the stock are Bearish and S&P gives TGT a positive 4 STAR (out of 5) buy rating. TGT appears on the Investors Observer Analysts Favorites list. For a hedged play on this stock, look at a Jan '10 40 covered call (TGT AH) for a net debit in the $34.35 area. That is also the break even stock price for this trade. This covered call has an 187 day duration, provides 9.13% downside protection and a 16.45% assigned return rate for a 32.11% annualized return rate (comparison purposes only). A lower cost hedged play for this stock would use a longer term call option in place of the covered call stock purchase. To use this strategy look at going long the TGT Jan '11 20 Call (VDH AD) and selling the Jan '10 40 call (TGT AH) for a $15.60 debit. The trade has an 187 day life and would provide 5.82% downside protection and a 28.21% assigned return rate for a 55.00% annualized return rate (for comparison purposes only). Target has a current annual dividend yield of 1.72%.

3. Wow!!
Another one to add to the list. Pretty soon I'll have nowhere to shop. It always seems to me anytime
the upper echelon fights sooo hard against something it's a good bet that the "everyman" would greatly benefit from it.

6. time to revive the lie about Target hating the Salvation Army ...
but then, since it's against unions, the media will suddenly be in the business of debunking it ...
