My Local is on the Ropes by Omaha Steve

Look for my post on the 20th. 400 members will be voting on a contract offer on the 19th. To reject (combined with another segment of our local expected to go to court) could very well be the end of my Local. 251 is one of the oldest AFSCME locals. We were organized 50 years (1941) before state law allowed us to be recognized.

Details on the 20th. I will be nominated on the 25th for the office of Vice President. I might get to go out in style.

OS

1. An AFSCME local on the ropes?
Local government is union-busting? And I thought i was depressed before. Now I have heard it all. Sigh. Good luck to you.

In solidarity,
Orwell

6. How can unions exist without jobs?
Unions can only have any reason for existence if there are jobs where the union is located. All those jobs are going to India.

In the case of AFSCME, all those jobs are simply being ended, especially in California. No more libraries, street sweepers, park maintenance people, and all the other things AFSCME members do. No jobs, no unions, problem solved.

Hell, it's not like Schwartzenegger or his rich buddies ever use public parks, anyway.
