PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― Rich Trumka is America's No. 1 labor leader Monday.

The former Mine Workers Union president is now the president of the AFL-CIO.

A third-generation coal miner, Rich Trumka has strong views about what happened in that West Virginia coal mine.

He was in Pittsburgh to keynote a gathering of state union leaders.

But before doing that, Trumka sat down with KDKA's Jon Delano and left no doubt who he blames for the loss of 29 coal miners.

The new AFL-CIO president knows coal mines. A third-generation coal miner, he has strong views about what happened in that West Virginia coal mine.

"What happened at the Massey mine wasn't an act of God. It was an act of man," says Trumka.

Trumka says 29 lives could have been saved.
