A 35-year-old Bellevue man has been charged with felony theft by deception in connection with the theft of about $8,000 in union dues.
Robert Alden made his initial court appearance Thursday at the Douglas County Correctional Center. A judge released Alden on his own recognizance.
Alden was treasurer of Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 52, which has represented a small number of guards at the Douglas County Health Center, 4102 Woolworth Ave., where Alden works. He is currently on paid administrative leave.
Authorities were alerted after a security guard realized that the lodge was not locally or nationally sponsored because its charter had been revoked. The union, though, continued to collect monthly dues.
