Received via email from my union, the California Faculty Association (CFA). Posted FYI for interested parties. Note especially the comments about CSU proposals for ZERO DOLLARS for faculty salary increases during the next three year contract. This is after the CSU reneged on raises for the last two years negotiated during the last contact renewal-- that is still working its way through labor review and ultimately, I'm sure, the courts.
This is going to be a very contentious contract negotiation. The CSU has already demonstrated bad faith by arbitrarily refusing to honor salary provisions of the last contract.

CFA BARGAINING TEAM AND CHANCELLOR’S LABOR RELATIONS DEPT MEET AT THE BARGAINING TABLE
The first “successor contract” bargaining session between CFA and the Chancellor’s Office began last Friday (June 25) at the CFA state office in Los Angeles.
CFA’s Bargaining Team met in the morning to discuss the structure and organization of negotiating the next faculty contract. The Team reviewed both sides’ initial bargaining proposals. See the proposals by scrolling down to May 5, 2010 at:

http://www.calfac.org/bargainteam.htmlIn the afternoon, six representatives of the Chancellor’s Office Labor Relations Department met with the CFA Team.
The parties started by looking at remaining issues from the last bargaining cycle. Although the 2008/09 “contract reopener” talks on salaries ended with the Chancellor unilaterally imposing his terms, there were a few details left to address.
The parties also discussed the 2009/10 contract reopener, which also deals with faculty salaries. The Chancellor has proposed zero dollars for the faculty’s General Salary Increase (GSI) and zero dollars for Service Salary Increases (SSIs). CFA provided a counter-proposal and that discussion will continue at the next meeting.
The next bargaining session on July 8 will also take up proposals for the next contract.
CFA Bargaining Team chair John Travis said about Friday’s talks, “Even in the most difficult of times, CFA has found ways to improve the working conditions and the economic conditions of the CSU faculty.
“It is vitally important that we come to every bargaining session with an urgency to get the best contract possible,” Travis said. “This is important for each faculty member; we have a legitimate need to earn a decent living to be able to support our own families, and to resist the degradation of the teaching profession.
“It is also vitally important to our students. It really is true that faculty teaching conditions are student learning conditions. Our students need teachers who are in a position to give them the quality education that they deserve and that California needs,” Travis said.
