Today in Labor History Nov 6 A coal mine explosion kills 79 & Susan B. Anthony was fined $100 voting

November 6

November 6, 1872 - Suffragist leader Susan B. Anthony was fined $100 for attempting to vote in a U.S. presidential election. Women did not win the right to vote until passage of the 19th Amendment in 1920.

A coal mine explosion in Spangler, Pa. kills 79. The mine had been rated gaseous in 1918, but at the insistence of new operators it was rated as non-gaseous even though miners had been burned by gas on at least four occasions - 1922
