Position Announcement - National Organizing Director



The Leadership Center for the Common Good is a new national training and support center for

community organizations<1>. Common Good works with a range of community-based and grassroots organizations on an array of social justice issues, ranging from living wage jobs to immigrants rights, from environmental justice/green jobs to education reform. The Center is hiring a National Organizing Director to oversee the development of field organizing plans and campaigns with our partners around the country.



The Organizing Director will require deep experience in community or labor organizing and will

summon the skills and passion of a first-rate organizer and strategist. This position will require the ability to build world class organizing programs at multiple levels, often simultaneously.



Potential areas of work include:

· Overseeing the construction of new, powerful community organizations in a select number of states;

· Development of a program to work with emerging community organizations to help them improve the strength of their organizing program and overall organizational development;

· Leveraging expertise at different approaches to organizing (community, labor and electoral, door-to-door direct action, online/social media, etc.) to help organizations draw out the best of each;

· Building national programs to recruit, train, and sustain organizers;

· Overseeing the development of one or more national issue campaigns with an emphasis on the organizing plan (as opposed to the policy particulars).



Ideal attributes of an applicant include:

· At least seven years experience in community, labor, or grassroots electoral organizing;

· Substantial experience training and supervising community, labor, or electoral organizers;

· Preference for excellent writing and communications skills;

· Ability to travel for extended periods to work with organizing groups around the country;

· Spanish language fluency extremely helpful.
